Between runs? Amateur... Shut the hood with it still on there. Wait **** giving away my secrets... LOL
Too late!...****** genius...I thought I was so smart, turns out it's amateur hour over here, lol

I would bring a sprayer with iced water and between runs spray that coolant pipe, but it was futile. By the time I got to the line, temps would be right back. I'll be tryin the bag method next time fersho...

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that as well. I've had mine sent off to Jet Hot to ceramic coat mine.104c270a747862fb7718a86278303e01
Polished your pipe? ()

But really, your on to something by coating it. I can wait to pull some numbers off of the results of insulating mine. I'm surprise I've never seen these mods before now. It seems like such a no brainier especially with all the crying we do about "heat soak" on this platform.

Yeah it was only like $75 to have done. I think I'll put that pipe insulation like you have on it as well. Easy enough to do.

Btw, I'm on the list for one, but any word on exactly how far out these are? Was getting ready to install my new manifold, but if it's due out soon, I can put it off a bit.
Right?!?! I just finished my engine build and I'm installing it now. But looks like I'll end up pulling the intake when the spacers get shipped.

The spacer is what I've been waiting on to complete my anti heat soak protocol for the intake manifold. Got on the list as soon as I saw this on FB! Been waiting months since I saw a cad drawing of it.

Some 1/2 wall heater/HVAC pipe insulation for 1" pipe, wrapped in foil tape.

This coolant outlet pipe sees highest coolant temperatures in our engine. Our aluminum intake manifold surrounds this pipe within an inch on all sides.

The manifold spacer should reduce heat transfer from the cylinder head. I can't wait to get out all of my tc's and temperature capture equipment to see what the difference is with both of these mods in place.

200°f+ temps radiating off this pipe directly on to our aluminum heatsink of a manifold. At idle, on a warm day, 170°f IAT2 temps aren't uncommon after idling for 5mins or so.

High IAT2 temps definitely effect off the line performance. Edbfd2cea2082795c2fb0305f95b0306017408a2d55e90f0886c947e761d8e1cA65da91a9a4e75174513c369489c8f45

BTW, you're not running into fitment issues with the stock insulator that pipe snugs up to are you? Or did you just remove it and not run it? I guess what you're doing is an improvement over what ford did, I am just wondering if that form-fitted foam is supposed to keep pressure against things and keep them from vibrating as well as insulating. Fuel injectors are right there and I haven't seen how much the OEM insulator is designed to effect those since I haven't removed my manifold yet.

Your first time dripping water on the starting line gets you a warning. The 2nd time gets you turned right back around until your shit dries.
Yep, I really dont have that issue. It is stupid hot here, and I have my splash guard.

So any update on further testing from the OP on this? Mine is ready and trying to decide if it is indeed worth the money, time and effort?

Oh, well pass on this batch. Let someone else get yours. I'll test it out for you.

For those asking for data think of it this way...

You are cooking something in the oven and you go to grab it out so you take your oven mitt (phenolic spacer) pull it out of the oven to put on the stove. Obviously this is dumbing it down a bit but assuming the object you are pulling out stays at the same temperature depending on how long you hold it you'll eventually burn yourself.

The phenolic spacer slows heat transfer between the two metal objects being the intake manifold and the heads. Iat2 is going to be identical if you sit long enough. However by product of the spacer is you can port match between the intake manifold and the heads if you want to take a few minutes and do that. Basically if you do a lot of stop and start or drag strip runs this will help you keep iat2 lower. And this is my not expert Ted talk. Thanks for joining.

I haven't inquired on buying one just yet because I'm pretty lazy these last couple weeks but I do get the value of it.

^ good ANALogy that covers the pro's and cons actually.

I want to insulate the coolant tube that is mounted under the manifold and why not add this why in there. ****, people pay to put nitrogen in their tires.

I may test fit it, but I don't think I'm going to need it with the pipe being wrapped insulated entirely.

I'm sure it's also designed to be a sound dampener for the di injectors, in addition to a heat isolator.

IAT2 is the air passing through the intake......which shouldn't be sitting still if the engine is running.
