I've seen people talk about the X-cal 3 on this forum I was wondering what it really does and is it worth buying?

It reprograms the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). It improves shifts, can account for different tire diameters, can disable trouble codes, and is necessary to change the engine control to account for modifications.

It's definitely worth buying. Talk to SHOZ123.

Shoz123 can turn your 4000 pound boat anchor into a streetable 4 door sedan like it should have been from the factory. No it won't be a rice rocket but you'll enjoy it so much more. His tunes are very worthwhile especially for the trans.

what does his tuning change in reguards to the trans?

does the computer tuning take the place of the shift kit installed in the trans?

Shift kits are more for lubrication issues. Tuning will change the shift pressures, shift points and torque converter behavior.

Yes but the shift kit needs to be done when rebuilding the trans.

any reason in perticular why it needs to be done when rebuilding?

Also, can the X-cal account for a mtx and/or supercharger?

The X3 is a PCM flasher. It does not allow real time modifications. It holds a pre written tunes(s) and then this is flashed into the PCM. You can make limited modifications to the tune that is loaded into the X3 if the tune is written to allow this.

It also is a interface that will allow data logging and code reading on any Ford.

shoz123, if I wanted you to do some tunes for me, would you need my car to do it, or do I just tell ya what mods I've got? how would that work?

Don't need the car. I can write a tune and send it tho you through email. You can load it into the X3 and see how it works or data log the car.

Unless you have major modifications then it is not hard to tweak the tune to get the best performance.

If you are wanting to get the absolute best out of the tune you need a WBO2 sensor. This can be plugged into the X3 and then data logged with the free SCT LiveLink software.

Tuners will not fix bad hardware.
