Won't Shift Into OD

I have a 93 ATX, that last lost the OD gear. When driving on the highway it won't shift into the OD. Runs at high RPM. Can this be fixed without a total rebuild? Could the car be driven out of town for this repair at the higher RPM's without damaging the engine? Anyone in the Cleveland area that can help with this repair or maybe total rebuild (Quaife, shift kit, etc.)?
