so i am on the highway letting someone drive my car. i tell him to floor it and when he does he maually picks 2nd (auto). the engine revs jump i think it scared him. so then he put it back into drive. well then after that he tried to just floor it and the engine just started sputtering. so we get it to a parking lot and its runs fine for a bit. we take off going again and it starts on the highway again. we get off at our exit and its doing it every where no matter what gear. stop at a parking lot and try to look for vaccum leaks. i hear a kinda hissing sound and after a bit the car just stalled. well we start it again and its running ruff stalls again. try it again to park it and it starts and i can free rev the motor like i should be able to. then i put it in drive and go to park it and it starts acting up again. neutral and its sputtering again. thats where i left it.

anyone have a prob like this. maybe cats clogged, tps sensor, maf, vac leak, or the worst timing jumped? is the timing jumping something we sho owners should have to worry about? any info on this prob would be much appreciated. none of the dummy lights came on and the temp didn't go any higher than it normally does.

sounded like under the air box. i recently took it off but it was all installed right and tight. i think it might be the fuel filter b/c if i give it partial throttle it revs but if i go open with it it just boggs out and dies.

AFIK it's not a common problem. It's possible that the last time the fuel pump was changed that the fuel level float was damaged which would cause the fuel gauge reading to be off.
