Wont crank

95 sho mtx. 122k miles. Just bought it at 121k have detailed service records up to 111k including all maintenance etc....

Drove it one day and stopped for a bit at the store. Came out wouldnt crank. Voltage/ batt/ connections good at batt and ground near strut. Waited maybe 10 mins fired right up.
During the next week no problems though i did notice it was sluggish to start on 1 occasion. Then today i drive it stop amd again wont crank. Wait the usual 15 or so. Still nothing. The action is the same clutch in or out no crank. Seems like maybe the clutch isnt engaging something (clutch works fine itself) or possibly dead starter? Solenoid and fuel pump both turn on/ engage


New to sho's any help is appreciated. Thanks

could be the solenoid or the starter itself. could also be a bad connection at the battery or ground.

I would start by jumpering across the solenoid to see if that gets it to crank.

Ill try that tomorrow it was dark and i couldnt see anything besides my dmm and the batt connections. Couldnt see the solenoid but could here it click.

So of course it started right up today. Drove home fine though first and second gear seemed a little tough to get into. By the time i got home no problems. Ill try to recreate the problem after work today (get it it hot and see if it wont start). I may just replace the starter and solenoid anyway and rerun all power and ground with some 2/0 I have from previous car audio installs. Will update when a resolution is found or problem is recreated.

Koeo gave me: 172 and 176 so im guessing new o2's are in order

Koer gave me 167, 225, and 412. Im guessing the 412 is in relation to the 02's

Ohh and engine started and ran fine today. Im pretty sure its gonna need the starter done.

167 - insufficient throttle position change during dynamic test (operator error)
225 - knock sensor not detected during dynamic test
412 - cannot control rpm during high speed idle test

so, the knock sensor is bad or the connector/wiring is bad, and the iac is suspect.

You the man. Thank you so much. Looks like an easy enough replacement. Looks like iac, o2's, and starter going in soon.

I have never heard of a SHO that would ping, but its still nice to have the knock sensor. Unfortunately, it is down in the bottom of the "V" so somewhat difficult to get to (have to remove the intake, etc). As often as not, it is a dirty connector rather than a bad sensor, in my experience.

I was going by the code description the one said of not pinging disregard. Ill try seeing if i can locate it and clean the connections. Plan is starter and run new wiring for power and ground from alt and batt, this week or weekend and 02's and iac next week/weekend. Im almost positive my no crank is starter/ solenoid and for only $60 difference might as well

I agree it's likely to be the starter; (to be clear, there's no separate solenoid switch on the 1995). Be aware that rebuilt ones can be problematic, so get one with a good warranty. I recommend the brand new starter NAPA sells; it has a lifetime warranty.

The only ones that I have had last are the NAPA lifetime warranty ones. note that NAPA also sells a one year warranty version. My experience is that those last till just after the warranty expires...

realized i never updated this. It was definetly the starter. replaced awhile ago and been fine since. Though I did replace the brake lines from abs back. MAF is being a bitch i think (no power past 4500 or so at 3/4 to full throttle) going to pull maf sensor plug and go from there
