I'm completely baffled on how to wire in a CD player that I got from my friend. What's in the car right now (before I removed it) was an aftermarket Pioneer tape player. After removing it, I noticed that the wires don't exactly match the ones for my radio. I also noticed that there's a plug that plugs directly into the pioneer deck, with wires going to butt connectors with a different colored wire on the other side of the connector going into the dash.
The wires on the other side of the connector that goes into the dash (which I guess is the factory wire?) are White/Grey, White, Grey/Black, Green, Purple/Black, Green/Black, Purple. On my CD deck is White, Pink, Grey, Yellow, Blue/White, Black, Red, Purple, Brown, Blue, Orange, Green, and 4 plugs (2 red, 2 white). Guess I'm looking to save a few bucks, and would greatly appreciate any input from any member. If you need more info/details let me know. Thanks !!

Is the stock wire harness still there? I would get an aftermarket harness hookup and use that. If not you will need to follow the wire diagrams.

The plugs are probabaly RCA.

You need to get the wire diagram for the CD player. It sounds like you may have an aftermarket wire harness hook up.

I'm not even sure what a wire harnest looks like (bunch of wires coming from in the dash? I think it's aftermarket). I thought it was a simple match up the wires, and install, guess not. Actually the wire diagram for the CD Player is on the CD Player itself. Dont quite understand it. What's the difference between stock and aftermarket harness? Also, how would I wire in the CD Player? Sorry, I'm truely a novice at this and I greatly appreciate the help. Let me know if you can help me any further, and to post the diagram for the CD Player. Again, thanks!!

you're best bet is to head to walmart and pick up a wiring kit from schosche which is made specifically for the model and year of the car you are trying to install the stereo into. You will still have to splice wires, but all of the colors should match up.

What am I going to be splicing into? My CD player? Or the wiring harness? Sorry, excuse the ignorance, but again thanks.

A wiring harness is basically a bunch of wires attatched to a plug. Its a crude, but effective, description. With the CD Player, you should have a harness which plugs into the back of the CD player and has a bunch of wires hanging out the back. The harness that you will buy, will plug into the empty plug that is in that big rectangular hole in your dash. This harness also has a bunch of loose wires on the other end of the plug. You should find a loose wire on one harness to match the color of a loose wire on the other. Splice these 2 together and continue. Ideally, you want to be reading directions as there will be some wires that probably will not be used. If you dont have these directions, find the manual to your CD player on the internet. Good luck. Don't do a half ass job with the splicing either, because you open up the possiblity of wires becoming loose with bumps or, worse, shorting. If this process sounds very intimidating you might just want to take it to a professional. In all honesty though its really quite easy and not worth the $$ you pay someone to do it for you.

Wow, thanks alot, I think I'm getting it! With the Pioneer tape deck that I removed, there was a slot for a plug. However, the deck that i'm about to install doesn't. The wires just seem to be coming from inside the deck itself. Splicing wires isn't a big deal to me, because I've install speakers before and that was pretty straight forward. This however, as you can see to me isn't. And I totally agree with not paying someone to do something I can do. I'll just take my time, and let you guys know, again thanks!! :thumb:

Also, one other question guys. . . . I searched the forums abit, and I saw alot of talk of radio installers bypassing the amp or sub, or both. How would I know if that's the case with my car, as when I picked it up it came with this aftermarket tape deck, which was probably installed by one of those people? One thing to mention is, I noticed there's some type of connector that's unplugged in my trunk that looks to be underneath the sub. Thanks

u just need a stardard, ford premium harness. alot of people will tell u u cant use it and u need to rewire the whole car, not true u dont even need an amp bypass. our factory radios dont have any amps, theyre preamps only and they use an amp mounted on the rear speakers(i think) on the gen 1 and on the back of the seat on the gen2s. just wire the bare wires from both harness together and ur all set, dont forget about the blue ones there should be three total just splice them all together or ull lose ur power ant. if u have one.

thats it, our cars arent to fancy when it comes to the sterio.

you need to figure out if the cut wires you see are going into the dash TO a connector, or if they are just 'going into the dash' (this means that someone cut off the stock connector...you will need to research and find out which wire is which in this case, and then hook straight up to the cd players wires)

your best/easiest bet to hook it up was to copy down on paper what wires were connected to what with the tape player you pulled (it should tell you what colors IT's wires go to), and then you can transfer that over to the wires for your new cd player.
