i've searched but found not much.. when my wipers come on, sometimes they'll go pretty far on the drivers side and hit the pillar, other times they'll be normal. also, when the wipers retract down into the hood, the pass side, doesn't go down all the way.

At the highest setting? I remember someone posted how to fix that. I just deal with it since it only rains that bad while I am driving like once a year.

no, it does it at any setting. also, when the wiper blades are off, i can push them down farther so that they rest on the cowl. feels like theres play in them.

Mine do that too. I'm thinking it because some of the bushing in the wiper linkage are worn out. I have a better set of linkages but I just have not put them in yet.

That happens to mine too, but only at highway speeds where they have the help of the wind. Maybe you could fab a limiter? I’m going to try it.

I'd be interested in hearing about any kind of fix. My SHO wipers do the same thing. I already tried removing and adjusting the wiper arms but to no avail. I think I read a post a while back wherein someone said that when they replaced their wiper motor that solved the problem. But like most things on the SHO, I suspect there can be more than one cause for the same symptom. That's why I haven't yet run out and bought a new wiper motor. And I wouldn't want to take a chance with a used one from a junkyard. So if there was a way to nail down the cause and repair it, that would be great.

I can grab either of my wiper arms give it a pull and they will rotate at least an inch. There is defiantly some slop in the system, I just need to take it apart and find out what is worn out.

i pulled the linkages finally. theres a little bit of play where the metal ball sits into the rubber bushing. do you guys know if the bushings are replaceable? or do i need the entire linkage? do arms from any 92-95 taurus/sable work? its for my 95 sho.

I also took apart the wiper linkages on my SHO a few weeks ago. Mine had a lot of play and the rubber "bushings" were shot. I ended up using some meaty rubber washers as replacement bushings and it seemed to tighten everything up pretty good. But I don't know yet if it has fixed the problem with the wipers going too far, since I rarely drive my SHO in the rain and I haven't yet had the opportunity to use the wipers on high while cruising along on the expressway. I'll provide some feedback at a later date.

how did you get the rubber bushings to tighten up the linkage? mine is worn inside the rubber where the metal ball sticks in. also, the rubber o-ring is worn too. did you mean the fatty rubber o rings?

The rubber rings are what I am referring to as the bushings.

Do you mean the "ball and socket" part? If the ball is too loose in the socket, you might try getting some large pliers and squeezing the socket a little to make the hole smaller.

My wipers did same thing you described. I had winter blades on. Get past 65pmh and the wind would take them way left. I found Napa has a Valeo type wiper blade that has the 1500 pressure points on the window. They are just a thin curved metal blade that does not freeze up or catch the wind. Works great, best blades I've had yet. Now the thing mine do that drives me nuts is they wont park under the hood most of the time. They park way left opposite of where they should be. I have heard that I need to replace the wiper pulse module thats on the interior firewall at the center of the dash. I believe this pulse module is still sold at the dealer and it comes with the multifunction switch. I dont really want to take my whole dash apart to get at that right now. If there was another way.....

when it doesn't park, can you move the arm up or down? after they return to the downest position, do they go any lower, in an attempt to park?

so i just fixed mine, bought some rubber washers, bushings whatever you want to call them, which i couldn't find anywhere, so used two oil drain plug gaskets stacked on top of each other for one bushing, next jammed a piece of cardboard up into the socket and shoved a little bit of white lithium grease, and voila, the whole wiper shebang works like it's supposed to.

Mine did the same. I was able to cure the majority of the problem by removing the wiper arm and repositioning it on the shaft. It still hits the edge some, but not as bad as before.

I believe this was a Taurus assembly line problem because my car had the same problem. The solution is to remove the wiper arm(s) from the knurled shaft and relocate it a measured amount in the clockwise direction to limit the travel at full sweep.

You will then find as I did that the arms "park" farther up the plastic ramp at the bottom of the sweep to relieve the load on the wiper blades when they are not being used. That is the designed purpose for those ramps and the factory setting of the arms fails to utilize their function. The factory setting also causes the blade to strike the A-pillar at full sweep under some conditions.

yeah on mine I just used a screwdriver, and loosened up the little clip (ford and their damn clips) that holds on the wiper arm in place, and then just pushed it counter clockwise
