Someone on this forum did a Windstar "Chump-Car" (or some circuit name like that) where he put a SHO motor in. He seemed to know alot about the Windstars and would be a good source.... but I can't remember any details. It was less than a year ago I think, and the prep up to race day was quite long and got lots of attention. Sorry I can't be more help, but maybe someone will remember what I am talking about.

iirc, the Windstar has the Mustang bolt pattern, not the Taurus pattern, but the offsets are different or something so they don't just swap over. someone looked into it in the past and said it would not work, but it might be worth another look.

All Windstars have the older Taurus 5x108 pattern, as we own a Windstar and a long time ago I looked into Windstar wheels for mounting race tires. Ours is a 1999 and the calipers are big iron 2 piston on 11 inch rotors, and I have verified that they will not bolt to a 94+ Taurus spindle. The brake rotors are thicker than on a Taurus and the offset is close.

But 1999 was a major revision year, so how much of this applies to 96-98 I am not sure (except the bolt pattern and offset are same as Taurus)

The main difference between the Windstar suspension and the Taurus suspension is that the lower control arms are longer on the Windstar by about 3".
