will gen2 resonator pipe fit gen 1?

I can get a brand new dynomax resonator pipe for my 89, I am doing a rod shifter conversion so I will need a newer resonator pipe anyway will a gen2 pipe bolt rite one?and is it worth the extra money to get the dynomax pipe?will it change the exhaust tone or be more highflow or does dynomax just use a stock resonator?
