Hey

my car is randomly holding open the secondaries...it throws a MIL,(dont remember the code I think it was P1518)that goes away every few days and stays off for random lengths of time. Also would the secondaries beeing open at idle cause a bad misfire when cold.

thank you

I forgot to add that the IMRC motor retracts the cable(opening the secondaries) as soon as the car is started. But that only happens when the code is set(not always)

why do you think it is the accuator...is it a normal issue for them to internally have an intermitent short?
We've got 30 or so units that do the same thing sitting on the shelf right now.

Paul was right above. The simplest and best thing to do is just get rid of the secondaries completely and run the air full open all the time. Cheapest, too.

Again, Paul is right just above. There is nothing demonstrating that the secondaries in the Gen III actually do anything, and a good deal of empirical data that they do not. Replacing it all is just asking for it to break again later and for you to have to pay for it another time, when there is no need to pay for any of it in the first place. Unplug the cable going to the box. Find the actuating arm and wire it full open. Do a clear of the memory by unplugging the battery so as to clear any resulting SES light. Done. No cost but a bit of time, no having to fix it again down the road, and open air flow all the time.

They restrict the airflow to the smaller intake valve port under 3400 rpm. But there is no secondary runner. Below 3400 rpm the engine is detuned so that when the secondaries do open you get a nice kick,
