I have owned both types. Gen 1's, 1989 and 1991 MTX and currently a Gen 3, 1998 ATX. In my observation, the stock Gen 1 with manual trans (which I loved dearly) are quicker off the line and excel up hills like a "***** ape". But, when the Gen 3 gets up and rolling and shifts into third gear at 75-80 mph watch out! It feels like a "gorilla" just kicked you. The V-8 rolls to 140 mph real quick, in a deep throaty NASCAR fashion. Ride and stability are smooth above 125 mph. I feel the Gen 3 has a better stock suspension, stability and ride control at higher speeds then do the Gen 1. My next upgrade will be a computer tweak or tranny rebuild to make it shift firmer.

I ran a GEN II MTX with open filter & cat back dynomax exhaust & my GEN III with the cold air intake. He pulled maybe a foot in 1st gear & he didn't power shift so we came back to even in 2nd gear & it stayed that way until he let out around 60-65. We called it even. I don't know if those blue headlights, turn signals & markers helped him at all. :slap:

don't want to trade, but I'm selling a '96 in Austin. I have it listed, and don't want to transgress the board rules, but it's in good shape, 95k miles. Let me know if you're interested.
