I've been trying for the last week to find a replacement motor but haven't been able to find one yet. I found out the hard way that the replacement fan assemble that AutoZone sells isn't for a SHO.

Is the motor for a 3.8L Taurus the same?

The reason the motor stopped working is the brushes are worn out. Would it be easiest to have it rebuilt?

mine quit working as well, and i couldnt find one to save my life, nor did could i justify buying one for 80 dollas that wasnt even the right part. so i replaced the brushes. they are the wrong grade of carbon and i had to use a dremel to file em down to get em to fit. now, when my fan comes on, all lights dim and Volt gauge needs drops to 10V for 1 second, then jumps back up to 13.

Looks like I'll be able to buy one from a parted out car. Do the MTX & ATX cars use the same fan?

Slo-Sho:
Got mine at AZ w/ a lifetime warranty. I also have the dual fan setup.
The fan assembly that AutoZone listed in their catalog was for a standard 3.0L Taurus, not a SHO. Is the dual fan setup an aftermarket one?

no.... assuming i'm remembering correctly

ATX cars use a dual fan setup...
MTX cars use a single fan setup....

and the proper fan motor should be available to you via a local parts store

what is the part number of the one that you got that didn't work?

If this works it was the "RADIATOR FAN ASSEMBLY" on the bottom of the page. click

AutoZone doesn't list a replacement motor for the SHO, neither does O’reily Auto Parts (only had listings for universal fans) or NAPA (only had a listing for 3.8L motor)

FYI, the dealer doesn't have a SHO specific listing for an electric cooling fan. Not everything on this car is specific to SHO. The engine is unique, the rest is a POS Taurus. Dealer part number for the new fan for is F4DZ 8C607 B. List price is $250.

Part # on my (bad) motor is F0DU-8K621-CA

Yeah, I know that other than the engine a SHO is just like a regular Taurus, however, unless the SHO shares the same motor as a 3.8L the cooling fan motor IS a SHO specific part.

They're all a "POS Taurus" if you want to think about it that way ..... just some of the parts are unique to an SHO. jpshakeh

I thank my lucky stars that some of the parts are the same because the costs of the replacement parts are less because of it.
