I just spent an hour under my car looking for this stupid thing. I can't find it ANYWHERE. Do I really have to pull the y-pipe off to get to it? I've searched through everything and can't find a thread that details exactly how to get to it. TIA.

Do you know if you have to remove the Y-pipe to get at it or even see it? I can't see anything that even looks remotely like this part.

I got some pics of where it's at Tara, hang tight until I find them.

The pic is turned kind of funny so you'll have to flip it 90° CCW to get a better feel for where it is. The pic also says 95, but for a 94 it's the same. It is at the very far side of the passanger side of the tranny.

You will not be able to really see the ATX VSS in its natural habitat. The job is done mostly by feel.

You can take the y-pipe off and access it from below with small hands. Or, you can take the passanger wheel and fenderliner off, lower the passanger side subframe, and come in from the side.

Twist and pull the heat shield to the back of the car to get it off.

Disconnect the harness going to the VSS (and the oil pressure sender - it gets in the way and can break)

Pull the clip that holds the speedo cable into the VSS, and wresltle the cable out.

Take off the single 10mm bolt (using 1/4 drive socket, universal joint, extension, and rachet) holding the VSS onto the housing, and twist and pull out.

This is on your ATX, right? Hope this works for yours, as it did on my '93.

As for location, look at where the passanger side halfshaft goes into the transaxle case. Look up from the side to the top of it. There is a hockey puck like casting on the top. The VSS goes in that thing from the other side, nearly parallel with the engine.

See if this picture helps any.

Tara,
There is a small aluminum heat shield that semi-surrounds the VSS. It is VERY difficult to reach or even see. Just to unplug it from the main wiring harness you will have to take off the Y-pipe.

You might be able to get at it through the passenger side wheel well, but I've never done it that way.

The shield is held on by one bolt I believe, but you might be able to just temporarily bend the shield up and out of your way. I think the sensor is held in by just one bolt also.
