I've got a componenet set on the way, and need a good place to put the tweeters. the places taht i've thought of include: (1) in the panels that are on the inner side of the side mirrors. (2) Drill holes in the "premium sound" mesh things and mount them there. (3) put them in the dash forward of the window defrosters. any other suggestions?
also, does anyone have a guide, or does one exist, detailing the removal of the door panels for speaker installation?
Thanks!

I pulled the auto headlamp sensor out of the dash and put them in that plate and the one on the passenger side. I used the provided template for my tweeters and installed them there.

I bought replacement plates from Bone yard out of a normal taurus for $5.00. Granted my auto headlamps dont work now, but i never used them anyways.

I would go with the inside of the mirrors; it's called a "sail panel." As for removing the door panels, get a panel removal tool from either Crutchfield or an auto parts store, and stock up on the plastic clips that hold the panels on.

They're a bitch to get off if they haven't been off before. Good luck thumbs_u

If it's a good set of components, then they should come with a couple sets of mounts as well. And since the Taurii's "sail" panel is flat, it makes an excellent mounting spot. What components are you getting?

These :p Blaupunkt ODc65
and these are goin in the rear:
Blaupunkt ODxa694

EDIT: I just realized that the auction I won was for the ODc66 set. that's the oversized one. will there be a problem getting it to fit? (DOH Im such an idiot)

Also, i found that the 6x9s have a DVC design, allowing you to hook up a low-pass amp signal to just the woofer while the deck drives the full-range portion. that seems pretty sweet. now to find an inexpensive 2 ch. amp.

I mounted mine at the top of the pillars. Sounds very good, it gives it more of a surround effect. Its also more direct and not coming from down below.

I used to have mine in the sail panel but I am always trying something different.

Kick panel mounting along with a mid driver works well. Convention says keep the mid and tweet within a close proximity to each other.

Mounting on the A pillar is ok, however unless you antenuate or time delay them the sound will be pulled to the side closest to your ear.

yes, kick panel mounting near the midrange will produce the best staging, just adjust angle for best staging. Easy to run wires that way, too.
Dynaudio dome midranges are great and have a sealed back, so you don't have to worry about the accoustics of the box or whatever.

While it's true that it provides the best staging, you still have to deal with the parking brake and other people's feet.

I don't think there are any ready-made kick panel speaker enclosures that provide for the parking brake. Q-Logic makes some overpriced plastic enclosures, but IIRC, they are not designed to accommodate the parking brake and must be modified accordingly.

Does anyone know of a cheaper and easier alternative, other than Q-Logic or sealed midrange?

I know an installer who installs for the president and executives of Monster Cable and other high end audio companies in the Bay area, etc. He had a clever way of installing tweeters and sealed back midranges: He would use what looked like epoxy marine paste and stick them to the kick panel, positioning them for best staging, then letting the epoxy set, takes a couple hours. Then he would use that heavy wire mesh like is used in some contruction to form a "wall" covering the speakers, conforming the wall to allow for the hand brake, and securing it with screws. Then he used a fairly "accoustic" transparent cloth that looked like carpeting over the mesh. The finished product looked stock, and completely hid the speakers! Stealth! Really clean install!

Sealed midranges work out well because you don't have to worry about boxe sizes, leaks, etc. Dynaudio makes a fine quality one.
I am thinking of moving the radio to where the AC control now is, moving the AC control to the cigarette lighter area (after cutting the proper opening), then using the entire DIN area for a center channel for DVD-audio. That way I can use about the same speakers as for the sides, without having to use some crappy speaker, and so get some real good sound in surround sound.
