Integral with the starter. Try hitting the starter with a hammer...lightly.

You need a new starter. It will come with the new solenoid.

And yet another reason I like my Gen 1..............:p

Make sure you check all the cables. Mine was shot and went through 2 solenoids before I finally checked the POS battery cable to find that part of it was exposed:doh:

ok so the starter and solenoid works fine and the battery works as well so im guessin its the cables. how would i go about fixing this? are you saying that the whole cable needs to be covered or it wont work, even the ends of them?

The ends being exposed is fine.

Mine had a slice in the middle of the POS cable.

I replaced ALL the terminals and cable.

If you take the POS cable into NAPA, they should be able to match it up and cut you a piece the right length. They'll have terminals too.

Clean all the connections with a wire brush and check ALL your grounds.

Hope this helps:wave:

would oil on the ground be a reason why it wont work?

I really don't know.

As soon as I saw the split, I went ape **** and cleaned and replaced everything.

I would certainly clean it up, that's for sure. Try replacing the terminals and cleaning everything really well.

Man, if I lived closer I'd come help!

ok just to make sure im not forgetting any wires this is how its wired:

Positive from battery to the solenoid, and where that wire is connected there is another wire that comes off of that and goes toward the other side of the car

Then on the second post of the solenoid it is connected to the starter motor

There is another wire (i think its the remote) that comes and connects to the solenoid on a third smaller post

And the last wire is the ground from the battery that connects to where i bolt on the starter.

is this all the wires that should be connected and do i have them connected to the right place?

Ok, if I pretend my Gen 1's Solenoid is part of the starter, you have it right.

Does it still "click" when you try to start the car?

If it's clicking BUT it's been tested and is good, it has to be a connection problem.

Mine was doing the same thing. Just clicking.
