I know that this subject has been beaten to death already. I was looking into getting rims for my 97. There is a set of 17 by 7 and the offset is +40. i like the rims alot and they do not make them in 7.5. Will these fit ok and look alright? I was going to get 225/45/17 tires with them. I was talking to some people and they are trying to talk me into the 17 by 7.5. Is there much of a difference in size between the two? I thought that the stock rims on my sho were 16 by 7. I think that the 17*7 will fit better. Is that off set going to be enough or to much. ..thanks...jj thumbs_u

I've run 38mm, 40mm and 42mm on my SHO's, so 40 shouldn't be of concern. I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan to upgrade your brakes.

hey, are you replacing the stock wheels? If so, are they chrome. I might buy them.?. I am getting ready to purchase a 97. It has the non chrome wheels. I would be willing to trade someone.

yes i am selling the rims on it. They are chrome with the weights on the back side. That is a pet peeve of mine. I have Pirrelli P7000 ss on them rims and car have never seem the winter or salt. They have about 2500 miles on the tires. I have a friend that might buy them, but i am not counting on it. Let me know. I will sell them to you. Everything is for sale with me for the right price! Not sure if i can list the price here. I am new and getting adjusted to the rules. [email protected] is my email. I think that i am going to get the rims then. Thanks for everything. I found them at www.speedandstyle.com. They have some cheap ass rims. I am not going to upgrade my brakes. I never go fast enough to use them. :) So the general concensus is they will fit and look fine?

Gordosho if you are getting 17 inch wheels go with the 235/45 series tires they are a tad wider and taller than the 225/45 and should eliminate more of your wheel gap, and they will also increase handling aspect.

I was going to get the 225/45/17 because i was going to put my Roush springs in. Will there be much wheel gap after that? If i do get the 235, does the tire buldge out alot? I would like it to be kinda flush with the rim.

No my sho wasn't on ebay, and to gordo sho, yes 235/45 17 will fit fine with the roush springs, i know two people in my town with 235/45 17 with roush springs and it looks really tough. Trust me the 235 with the roush springs will look really good.

IIRC, the stock rims are 6.5"s wide. In general, as you increase the width of the tire, you should also consider the width of the wheel because you do not want a lot of angle on the sidewall. How much angle it is designed to handle varies with the manufacturer and model for the tire, So before putting 235mm tires on a 7" rim, it would be a good idea to check the site of the tire manufacturer to be sure that the size is within the suggested range.

If you're going with a 7" wide wheel, throw around the idea of a 215/50/17 tire. I have that setup on my Gen 3, and let's just say that I have pushed my car to it's limits many times and those tires were able to take an exit ramp faster than a Subaru WRX without even showing signs of breaking loose.
The tire is basically the same width as the wheel, so no sidewall bulge. I've even had people tell me that they loved how I had such 'wide' tires on my car, even though they are technically 10mm narrower than the stock 225 width.
