on my 94 mtx what is the small one wire connector on top of the alternator. from what i remember the wire is yellow? also this wire is loose and seems to be somewhat connected to my dash lights. at least when the car is just in the run position.

If it anything like the wire on my mustang, it reads the charge that the alt is putting out. If its not connected, your battery light will come on because it does not read a charge. Mine wont stay on due to a broken connector so i keep it off... Been fine for several months now.

after replacing mine 4 times thank to NAPAS crap remans I forgot to connect it, I left it off for a few day and I didnt notice anything wrong untill I went to check the oil so I plugged it back in, it's a strange alternator though, never seen one with that connector.

Oh, I know the connector you're talking about - it's purpose is to get dirty or corroded, thus flickering on / turning on the battery light at rpms north of 6500.

To confirm all stated above, yes, it reports voltage, and signals a lack thereof by way of the battery light on the dash. When the connection breaks or is weak, the light starts coming on, even if the alternator is working properly.

I beleive that goes to the Alternator Warning Lamp (batt light on dash). Unplugging it would just mean that you will not be notified when the alternator takes a dump.

The wire normally is dead headed in the loom.

This is the case with 95ATX...the black wire dead ends in the loom.

This yellow and white wire that is being asked about on the 94MTX is (I think) the alternator warning light.
