What's That Smell...........!!!

I have been smelling this bad smell coming from under the hood any time I drive. The smell seems more strong directly from the drivers side, closer to the firewall. The is no smoke at all. It smells like exhaust fumes, but I am not quite sure. If I smell anywhere else under the hood but the front drivers side, I don't really smell the fumes.

Anyone have any idea what I can check for? Maybe, there has developed a exhaust leak somewhere. The smell seemed to start all of a sudden. I also feel a slight air of heat coming from up through the car from that same area.

I've heard of small animals (mice, birds) making a little house and then dying under car hoods. Then they STINK.

When my car blew up and we drained the oil, burnt antifreeze mixed with oil was the nastiest smell describable. Actually, I don't know that describable is a word, and it probably WASN'T describable.

The EGR tube that carries exaust gas from the manifold to the valve is in that general vicinity; and a leak would be sure to cause the noxious fumes you've described. Unfortunatly it's a discontinued part, but I think a few members have gotten around that somehow.

Yeah, sounds pretty much like when my egr pipe had a big hole in it.
