so first off I have a 93 SHO, the top is a single din area, and below it is a container with a flip down cover.... that is din sized...

now theres nothing to mount a radio to, its just all gone, you look in the hole and all you see is the top of the storage din.... what makes it worse, I whent to the junkyard and every taurus had the radio stripped on it LOL... it was rather disapointing

its been years since I've been into a Taurus radio so I've forgot what it looks like

any help or pics of what should be there would be helpful, or if anyone has the spare parts I'm missing... I'd be willing to get that off your hands too...

I can take a pic of what mine looks like tomorrow if it helps..

On the top there is a rail that the head unit slides onto. The rail is above the opening.

Should have a white plastic piece on the back of your stock head unit that slides along the rail Jelloslug mentioned.. Not sure what the aftermarket head units require.

ok, I always thought you used din removal tools to take it out, the u shaped things.

so if thats the case, the radio would slide out, and it would slide into some kind of bracket, that attaches to the top rail?

You will still need the ford radio removal tools ( those 'u' shaped thinngs) to pull the radio or cd player. What I am referring to is the plastic bracket on the rear of the unit that acts as a rear support.

which could be obtained where? Best buy?

I've searched around some walmarts for kits, but they don't have the one that says it fits my exact car......... its like a generic old style ford kit that doesn't look like its what I need

After market units should come with the sleeve attached. You just slide it off, insert in dash, bend the tabs back to lock it in place and then slide the unit in. After you fish the wires through of course.:)

Are you trying to install an aftermarket headunit? They come with one when you buy it new.

They are different for different brands. A couple weeks ago, I needed one for my Kenwood headunit. First I tried eBay, but got the wrong one. I called up Kenwood and got one directly from one of their suppliers in Miami. It was like $10 shipped and arrived the next day.

What kind of headunit do you have?

What you're looking for is called a DIN sleeve. As K-Dawg (Kelvin) stated, it is manufacturer specific (ie. can't use a Alpine DIN sleeve for a Sony), often year specific (ie. limited to one to a few product-years), and may even be product specific (ie. fits their CD-player product line, but not DVD-players).

You can search eBay using "Sony CDX GT300 DIN sleeve", but I too would recommend using a Sony aftermarket supplier.
