PI in regards to the 4.6l engine stands for Performance Improved. so if you have non PI heads, they are non Performance Improved heads, and IIRC that is from 96-98, in 99 IIRC is when the got the PI heads

im a bit of a modular motor guru.

oh man I feel for you haha

ever blew a spark plug out?

MTX SHO>2v mustangs

I've raced a few stangs with the SHO, the sho always prevailed

5.0 auto, exhaust, off road y pipe... neck and neck, then SHO started pulling in 3rd, we whent from a 5mph roll... stangs advantage there this was with the old 3.0.... which got ***** by a stock 1990 SHO.......

4.6 5 speed 96 variety, unknown mods... SHO pulled all the time

4.6 PI 5 speed, atleast exhaust.... SHO Pulled a good carlength out in front from around 40-125, and thats a 260hp stock stang........ this was with 3.2 w/ 3.0 cams and borla exhaust

auto 4.6 PI convertible, blown away on the interstate..... those cars have bad gearing

if you got a healthy running SHO, don't let a 4.6 non PI almost stock stang talk shit to you, put money on the race and shift like a madman...

I haven't raced anyone with the aftermarket y pipe and aluminum flywheel additions yet....

oh yeah all this happened at a mexican dragstrip, and the vert stang tried me on the autobahn... suckers they were

You are correct sir. 89-90 had cable, maybe some late '90's. But 91 is when the rod shifter was phased in. BTW brett, im not telling you like you dont know, im just letting the op know. :thumb:

yea thats what i meant by phasing them in cuz i think ford just threw on whatever they had or looked good at the time. My 91 lucked out because it has a rod shifter, and even came with a plus hood.

I may be wrong but i think illSHOyou's plus came with a cable. Thats only going off memory which is a lil fuzzy. What isn't fuzzy is i remember a few years ago, seeing pics of a sho with european tags on it. Might be the same one but what's also fuzzy is what color it is so who knows.

Since I purchased a 91 SHO plus brand new, I can testify that it indeed had the cable shifter. Mine was made in May of 1991. A friend bought a June 1991 SHO plus and his had the rod shifter. I'm not sure if there was an exact cutoff date for the cable shifter. I would imagine that they basically used up what they had.

Damn, well thanks for the info.

I guess when I was told all 91 + had the rod shifter, I was misinformed. thanks for correcting me.

Yes... the rod shifter was not Plus specific. It was integrated into all SHO's in 92.
