Just curious as to what other Gen 3 owners are running as far as tire size/brand. I'm going to need to replace my Dunlops probably next spring.

Right now i have Firestone Firehawks in 225/50ZR16, i love them. they are great for the street and road courses, don't last very long although. Also, these are not a good drag tire, they have way to much grip for a N/A SHO.

I just bought a new set of Bridgestone Potenza RE010's in 245/45WR17 i can't wait to put them on.

I have about 7000 miles on the G-Force B.F. Goodrich KDWS tires. I will be rotating them this week but they seem to have lost quite a bit of grip and are wearing quickly.(Compared to the RSAs)

Here's the scoop:
My wheels are 17x7. I think a 245 tire would be a little too wide. I'm even having trouble finding an appropriate 235/45/17 tire that is recommended for a 7" wide wheel. Most of them say they're for a 7.5-9" wide wheel.

I guess the most attractive tire and wheel combo was the one I saw on E-bay from one of the owners of the SHO shop. 17X7.5 MIM Vinezia wheels with 245/45 tires...17 inch. I think this also had Roush lowering option. (I would loved to have purchased this car) As usual timing was not right.

Currently running the Dunlop Sport 9000's 245/45/17 during the summer and Dunlop Sport 5000's 225/55/16 (OEM wheels) during the summer. Both have done extremely well over the last year. I had multiple nail issues with the RSA's (They were a nail magnet). I still have a good set of the OEM's to fall back on if I need any spares, I only need to find some extra wheels for them.

Another great winter tire if the BF Goodrich Control TA size 205/50/16 for the winter, I run them on my minivan.

Star away from the BF Goodrich "Scortcher" series they are junk.

Wuzzer, I still owe you those pictures of my Tips.

I suggest the Bridgestones mentioned above. I have a set of Potenza's already sitting in the garage for the first cool day when these Kumho's feel wrong, and then they are gone.

BFG COMP TA ZR'S. Decent tire, great price. I will buy Potenza RE 730's when I have an extra 700 bucks laying around. Go with RE 730's if you have the cash. I had them on my 16's and they were like glue on the road!!!!

Mark what are you planing on using the tires for?

if you have money to burn get the Firehawks SZ50ep, far superior to any tire on the market. if your looking to save half the money and want 85% of the preformance for 1/2 the cost Buy the Kumho (***-**'s) I have put them through some very severe conditions and extremely pleased and zero complaints.

I don't agree with Kirk on either choice. I drove the Firestone's on someone else's car, and though they seemed to me to be good tires, they were not even close to the higher end Bridgestones. And the Kumhos, frankly, are exactly what they list as, a cheap, not very good, tire. In tires, cost often really does tell you something.

Brigdestones tires Blow :D

I don't agree with Kirk on either choice.
Okay what we learn here hmmmmmmmm allot of different tire from different companies. Personnal opinion and experience play a role in what you think about an tire. So personally the old addadge(sp) you get what you pay for may apply and may not. I personnally like BF Goodridge (expensive)and Nitto's (found to be good cheap tire that supply and demand is forcing prices up).

Kirk is by far not easy on his car if he says tires did well well I would have to believe him on that one. Stephen had bad experience with them or there just not his style tire (again both opinion)....

The choice is yours by far, though most of the reviews on Tire Rack say there worth there money. Can not be all that bad to have. Who knows there probally made by Goodyear or Firestone or whoever under different name.

To throw another addage(sp) out there your paying for the name on most of the tire since the quality is already there.

So the choice is your, good luck. I know I will be buying Kumho sooooooooon (better the street slicks) :D

Hey Mark I think you are attending the convention this year, if so feel free to take a rip in my car. My suspension is more modified but you can always tell what a tire will do.

I don't have a SHO, but if you are interested in 17" tires that other Gen. 3 Taurus owners are using, then I can at least tell you what I have. I have had two sets of tires since I bought my 17's. First I had 205/40/ZR17 Dunlop Sport W10's. Plain and simple, they sucked! They wore out quick as ****(probably due to the Z rating). Anyways, after the Dunlop's I opted for 215/50/17 Yokohama Avid T4's. I currently have them on my car now and they have worn exceptionally well. I will probably be purchasing the same exact set when these wear out. thumbs_u Here is a closeup pic of my Prime 134 tuner wheels on the 215/50/17 Yokohama's:
