Ok guys here's an interesting one for you... my intake has never been completley dismantled before. I tackled the task today and found something really odd....

2 of the 3 butterflies on the plennum closest to the front of the car are BENT! All the rest of them are fine. What caused this? How can I remedy this? Should I carefully hammer them straight?

I have seen that before in some of the cores we used to build the big bore butterflies. I don't know what caused it.

The stock butterfly plates are pretty soft, you should be able to bend it back with your fingers. Worst case, if you needed a new plate, let me know, I have about a billion stock plates from Kurt's last couple runs.

That condition can be caused by a severely premature ignition of the mixture in the cylinder with the intake valves still open. In other words, a backfire. Incorrect routing of the spark plug wires is probably the simplest way to accomplish this. Remember Artesia? He created a case very similar except that his butterflys were so bent the secondaries wouldn't fully close or open.

Have you had any type of intake backfire?

Ever since I've owned the thing I doubt I have had a backfire. I dunno about the pervious owner... anyway good points! I never would've thought of backfire but that makes a lot of sense.
