ok got car for the first time it was close to impossible to start but when it did it ran perfect, but upon running it for about 15 min it would overheat. So i changed the thermostat which stopped the overheating, and even chainged the throttle position sensor which did nothing, but then looking on this site i found to change the camshaft position sensor which i did. From then on it started right up about 20 times prefect crank the moment i turned it over. Then all of a sudden it would take 2 cranks and pumping the pedal alittle now its almost getting as hard to start as it was before, what else do you think it could be?

hard to start

hmm.... got fuel pump ?

obviously, would check for any EEC-IV codes first. easy and a good first step.

would listen for the fuel pump when you turn the key (before crank). should hear it whirring. it may be that you fixed your overheating problem, but have a separate problem. other easy fix would be replacing the fuel filter (R rear near tension strut mount).

another thought would be IABP valve. this allows air into the intake when the throttle is closed (i.e. when starting).

best of luck. how many miles on car, what year?

163,000 on a 95 auto, i changed the fuel filter and i can hear the fuel pump on while i turn the ignition on,i checked the codes and it came up with like 212 and a 214 i believe which i am told comes up when you have a faulty camshaft position sensor but i had a 538 or something like that but couldnt find out what it meant.where is the iabp valve located?

codes on your problem

212 -- "loss of ignition diagnostic monitor signal/SPOUT grounded"
214 -- "cylinder identification circuit failure"

don't know about these two. esp don't like the sound of the second one.

538 is "insufficient RPM during KOER"

have had this occas when something else was wrong, but I don't think is very helpful

on this vehicle the Idle Air Bypass (IABP) valve is located right next to throttle body, points backwards. can go bad from getting sprayed w/intake cleaner. this is also an easy fix -- 5 min with allen wrench, don't drop the bolts !

best of luck, hope this helps.

214 is Camshaft sensor - CID I thought. Was there oil in the Cam sensor? As far as I know the only time you put your foot on the gas with a fuel injected engine is WOT to clear a flood. Could just need to reset idle if the cam sensor area is dry. If you think you remember seeing oil when changing the cam sensor you may try removing it again and using electrical cleaner. Better yet change the seal and clean it out.

i didnt see any oil,but it was dirty and the prongs were a bit dirty and rusty and cleaned them with electraclean and a wire brush, now that grey box on the intake tube has a broken piece off and you can see the inside do you think that would be enough to cause my engine to do that.its just weird that it worked fine up until a few days later..and if its that its odd that it just started messing up.

Oh yeah. That is your DIS. It all passes through there. Try reseating the plugs into the DIS. Can cause those codes too.
I'm not sure what it is you cleaned. The cam sensor doesn't have prongs as I would call them.

You mean the connection to the Cam position sensor. Hmmm do the wiggle test on all your connections one at a time.

Get it from someplace you can return it like Autozone. If it doesn't change things return it. Buy a checked used one on ebay or here because with the humidity down there it will cause issues. Oops before doing that bring in yours to have it checked.

Still reset idle

A little dielectric on the back. There is disagreement on heat sink vs dielectric. Manual call for dielectric. The DIS grounds to the intake so make sure the surface and screws are clean and rust free. The dielectric grease will help keep crud from disrupting the ground.
