If saving money on gas is what you are after, E30 will save you a few bucks each fillup.
It might make a tank of gas cheaper, but not necessarily cheaper cost/mile. That depends on E85 and E10 cost. There's a measurable drop in MPG when I use E10 instead of E00. There's going to be a bigger drop going from E10 to E30.

On E30 I have a 15% decrease in fuel economy. In the long run I break even, however I have a lot more fun.

Some brands like BP, Shell and Exxon Mobil put more detergents in their premium that regular. That doesn't matter much in a GDI engine.

I ran E30 on a stock tune for a long time without issue. LFTF went up about 5-7 numbers which is spot on for 20% more ethanol (about 6% less energy). Zero knock.
I saw in a thread on a Subaru board (my other car) about top oils, that some oils do give significantly lower deposits on the valves in GDI engines. Mine is the older engine so non-GDI anyway.

I have a Gen 2 (1993) with 185,000 miles. I bought it new and I still drive it to work. I have only used premium, from whatever gas station is the cheapest and I have never had problems with my injectors.

It will be cheaper if you compare E85 prices to premium gasoline.

The difference in energy (BTU content) is 3% for E10 verses E0. That's exactly the difference you will see in fuel economy.

Exactly. The difference between E00 and E30 is 10%. All I'm saying is compare the cost/mile not cost/tank. It may or may not be cheaper, it depends on prices of gas and E85

advertising for shell nitro makes you think the detergents are only in the high octane stuff. Possibly bull****, I wouldn't die from shock. I use it whenever I can (no stations near me). Stock 1990 mustang gets it all the time, very high mileage car that gets drag raced a lot, seems to like it. Runs very smooth on the road and is consistent at the track. Liked Amoco before they partnered with bp and dumped all that oil in the gulf. Haven't used since.

The majority of people pay no attention to the cost per mile, only the initial cost at the time of spending money.

I think you are correct tho, the cost per mile if driven the same would probably end up being about the same. For me the cost per mile of E30 is definitely higher because I have way too little control over my right foot since I got the E30 tune. I have two things going for me. One is that I can afford it, and the second is that I don't care about the cost per mile anymore. LOL!

Not sure about the U.S., but here in Canada, Ford literature advertises the peak hp and torque with an asterisk and states that it comes only with 93 octane. When I fuel up in Washington state, the highest octane there is 92. When I fuel up in Canada, I use Chevron 94. The difference between the two is very obvious. In the Winter, I don't care, but in the warmer months, I like the higher octane.

Tuned and most of the time it is BP 93 octane for me. Occasionally, I'll run a tank of Valero 94 octane.

On the latter, I'd like to say I notice a slight difference when pushing the car, but that is probably just the placebo effect.

I've only had my 2018 (non-PP) for 6,000 miles. I have tracked every fill up and have had virtually no difference in mileage between 87 and 93 octane. Now, my car is stock and I don't run it hard. outside temps have been from 10F to 100F. best mileage was last week with 87 at 26.56mpg highway trip

Been using 87 from wherever since I bought mine (Nov. '17) with no ill effects that I'm aware of. Stock car, I don't hot rod much.

The mileage shouldn't be affected much by the octane. Ethanol content would play a bigger role there. The power the car makes would be noticeably between 87 and 93 octane.

My understanding is 94 CAD is equivalent to 91 US.
