What flows through this hose?

I'm getting sick of adding coolant, so I decided to search for the leak today and I stumbled upon this. It is located right under the throttle body. Anyone know what this hose is for?

this picture sucks, its kind hard to tell what I'm looking at, you need to take one from further away because there are a lot of hoses running through there and I need to see that hose in relation to the others......

are you talking about the hose you cut as the one as leaking? that to me looks like a coolant hose going to or from the Throttle body area.... I would research on how to do a throttle body bypass, get new hose, and loop that hose as described, I used to have a thread with a picture in it, but dunno if thats still around since the crash.... I'm sure there are others as its a common thing to do...

It's the crankcase ventilation hose. The picture is taken from under the firewall side of the throttle body, facing the front of the car.

There shouldn't be any coolant coming out of that hose. The leak is probably one of the other hoses around it.

The liquid in that hose is somewhat ambiguous. It could be oil coming from that particular one.

not pcv. coolant...you are leaking coolant from that hole? :oogle:
If you look carefully, you can see both TB coolant lines are connected in the pict. There is not a third coolant hose that goes to the TB.

Also, if you look at the hose you'll a lengthwise crack in it which is very common on PCV hoses.

The gunk on the end of the hose is a mixture of oil and condensation plus some dirt added for good measure.

Thanks for all the speedy responses. I didn't believe that was a coolant hose, but I was searching for a coolant leak when I discovered it. I put a paper towel by it and rev'ed the engine and it kinda looked like oil on the towel, but who knows?

well if u got a leak of coolant in that area, i'd do the TB bypass mod, a hose or a pipe could be leaking... it just simplifies it and is more reliable with less things to have a chance of leaking

but I see you are in North Dakota... do u drive it in the winter?

I drove it this winter, and we are 1.4 inches from the snowiest winter EVER. It's been horrible. I hope to have a 4x4 by next winter. I saw a post by someone saying his throttle body froze open, so I know what you're getting at.

Is that what's the TB coolant for? To keep the butterfly from freezing?

"I do believe its true yes I do believe its true."

It prevents it from freezing up when it gets into the 30's...

Yes. It would have a tendancy to freeze at about 34-36°f in moist climates. It's not likely to freeze in arid climates at any temp.

To find your leak, rent a pressure tester from AZ or AA. Pressurize the system with the engine cold, and then apply bubble-blowing solution to each joint. Look for bubbling. If in a quiet environment, you may be able to hear the leak. Use a dental mirror to check the water pump crossover pipe joints underneath the intake.
