Sho Shop, catted y, factory resonator, and I believe them to be factory mufflers, just started peeking out a little bit of rust.

Th P1000806

Didn't put it to the floor, but I did step on it a lil. Throttle response and such look ok ?

Th P1000807

In this last one I still have that damn noise goin on.. Sounds like possibly the bearing in the alternator. It looks clean, but it was on the old motor, and had been rebuilt a while back, just not spun in 2 years. Rusted bearing beggining to fail? That belt isnt new either, seems sticky tho, its on the list of other things to buy. Brakes are my priority at the moment, but this noise has got to go. around 2k-2500k is where you can hear it the best, thats why i was holding the throttle there in this last one.

Just like having pros check my work. :) thanks guys!

The more I look at it, it seems the backside of the belt isnt making perfect contact on the idler pulley. I peeled the seal, and repacked that bearing by hand. So it should be good. Could a bad belt do that?

From the rust I know right where the tensioner was, I cheated and put it back where she was, just to know where it was before. One good thing about rust.. lol lost another damn c clip too.. :( what happens when you tinker around @ 3:40am.. lol

How tight is the timing belt? I have heard belts that were too tight sound like that.

Well.. I kinda thought that too at first, But I popped the door open, and loosened it up a hair, afraid it'll jump tho if I get her too loose. Pretty much let the spring tension it for me, then added just a touch before I tighened it down. I suppose it could be the bearing there too.. didnt even think of that. Was thinking of taking my alternator to autozone or something so they can spool it up, see if its there or not. Both of my idlers were spinning freely, I repacked the front, and the rear spun forever when I was messin with it. Spun for almost 3 minuites.. lol so I would assume they are ok? The front tensioner was not so easy to turn after i repacked it, well it was easy just not 'free spinning'. My wide belt is kinda shot, so that could very well be it, but I have special belts I gotta order... gotta get em today.

Gates #'s

K060427 21mm x 1105mm

K040490 14mm x 1255mm

Neither are that much off a regular belt, about a 1/2" or so.

Ok.. belt is ok I suppose, still have that noise.. I hear a whoosh almost when I turn it off. I'm assuming something in the intake is loose.. so I pulled it off again.. :) See if getting the Butterflys tighter helps.

I second the timing belt. I was rusty since the first 60k and goofed installing my timing belt. I installed mine too tight and it sounded very similar to yours. I thought that my revs came down a little bit too fast like the engine was dragging. The noise was evident around the 2000-2500 rpm range when winding down, just like yours.

There is a specific procedure that must be followed or else the belt won't be the correct tension. I didn't follow it correctly because I don't think the shophoenix instructions follow it.

I tried to loosen the belt, but was paranoid I'd loosen it too much or it would skip teeth. Paranoia soon turned to a real situation. I ended up making the belt too loose and the car ran like crap. I drove the for a week maybe, with the car getting progressively more like a dog towards the end of the week.

When I tore into it I noticed the belt was slack and some threads were showing on the edges. The belt had been walking around the sprockets some. God was with me that day and all the sprocket marks still lined up. Fortunately the belt didn't skip large amounts or any teeth. I have stage II cams and that could be bad news because I'd have to use my spare heads.

After installing my third timing belt, about 600 miles after installing the second, I noticed a huge difference in noise immediately, and the engine revved more free.
