what could it be?

95 atx 140k. so i was driving yesterday and the sho just dies. it acted like it ran out of gas (had 70% of full tank) so i managed to pull it over on the side of the road , then try and crank it a few times (nothing) so i hop on the cell to try and find a ride. after a 5 min convo , i tried to start it 1 more time , and bam it starts up fine. well i continue on my way and 10 min later it dies again. again i try and crank it , its a no go. so i wait 10 min and try again. of course it starts right up? what could it be , any ideas? i drove it about 20 miles today , with no probs.faulty fuel pump?

fuel pump overheating and shutting down....when it dies and won't start, does the tach needle move while it's cranking? if not, your crank sensor could be shot.



This sounds awfully familiar.....i'm pretty sure mine did this when the crank sensor gave up..

^ not sure ? i didnt pay any attention to it? i was during a long drive , and it was around 80 degrees outside. i didnt know fuel pumps could overheat? is the crank sensor a easy fix? i would like to try that route first. you know a rough idea on a price for a crank sensor?

lindseys cavalier did the same thing for about a year......then last weekend her fuel pump went completlly out..........i would say thats about 80% likelly ur best bet

I've had 5 or 6 crank sensor failures in various different SHOs.

Every time, the symptoms are EXACTLY the same as you describe.

You need a crank sensor(front 60k)

thank you 93rev2sev and SuperHO im just gonna go ahead and replace the crank sensor. any info on the job itself? would it qualify as a easy task? also any price ideas? thanks guys

This'll guide you through an entire front 60k, should you decide to do it (which you should anyway, since all that shit's gotta come off to do a crank sensor).

i would check fuel pressure
pressure with the key on, with the car running, and deadhead pressure
