That doesn't answer the question.

We've seen cars here in our shop with the front cams welded but not the rears. Ever seen half a tune up done, 7 new spark plugs and one old? Same thing.

Best thing is to rely on a REPUTABLE shop that provides you with documentation, pictures with a VIN or other proof. Without that, pull the covers and look for yourself.

Do it Doug's way. Pull both the front and rear valve covers. It's not that hard, just time consuming as an old friend used to say. Put your own eyeballs on the welds to make sure both front and back are good to go.

Tell the seller you want your mechanic to check it out and bring it on over to Kirk. Just stay for more than ONE beer this time :nut:

yeah no way to tell, but i really doubt any seller is going to let you pull even the front cover, nvm take half their engine apart, i certainly wouldn't let you even if the cams really were welded.

I would simply assume they're not, and get the price knocked down as much as possible to compensate for a cam weld. Bring plenty of pictures of failed cams and ebay ads for gen 3's with failed engines to convince the seller to reduce the price.

What every one else says ... I took pictures when doing my own and it was very tempting to only weld the front ones. I have owned the car 2 years now and I am so glad I took it apart and did the rear cams.

Like every one else its not that hard I had to do it three times in fact cause I chased a bad coil. Finally I bought 4 new ones installed in the rear. Ended up being a coil in the front go figure..

I think I had two bad coils got one in the back and one in the front sure made for long weekends but so glad I kept working on it. The car has run great for 2 years with weleded cams.

Since then I have installed mufflers dam this really makes the car sound good changed all fluids including trans, brake, oil and coolant.

I still get the TC unlock with A/C on from time to time on the highway but other then that the car rocks.

I have 62,000 miles on the car started with 54,000 miles. Glad I bought this car it gets questions all the time and I still have not seen another driving down the road since I bought it.

Seattle, WA.
