I've been noticing lately while driving that I'm getting the aroma of gas in the cabin. After further inspection around the car, I've found that there is a ringing/whining sound coming from the area around the fuel filter when the car is off after a drive of a couple miles or more. It is not leaking any gas, I just get the smell of the fumes. I plan on replacing the filter when i get some time and good weather, but wanted to see if this is a common thing or if anyone else has had this happen? Anything in particular I should check while I'm under there? thanks in advance

Try this: Facing the engine, there is a vacuum line that exits the "front" of the (left side) of the engine that goes down to to a "solenoid" like device. Follow the line that exits this solenoid down to under the radiator. On the drivers side you will see a little plastic connector. Carefully remove this connector (they can get brittle) and make sure that it's not plugged. This line vents the fuel tank to the carbon canister, and if it's plugged, you get fuel vapors.

I couldn't see any lines that exited to that area, but I got underneath to take a look. You're not talking about the white thing that connects the two lines are you?

Wow, mine was clogged like none other. I haven't had a chance to run the car around the block yet to see if that was it, but I'm assuming that is going to be my problem. Thanks guys I appreciate the help.

P.S. I noticed that having this line clogged up messed with my fuel gauge alot. Now it's normal, weird, just a side note though

Thanks for this post! My red 89 whistles when it shuts off; I figured it had to do with something like this. :thumb:
