my green sho has a weird clicking noise coming from the steering wheel. if i just sit still and turn my wheel back and forth about 3inches each way i can hear a little click and feel a small thump type of thing. i checked out my ball joints and tie rod ends and they were all tight. actually the motor mounts and subframe bushings were good. just wanted to see if anyone might know what it could be.

thanx

Corey,
Did you ever determine what the cause of the "weird clicking noise" emanating from the steering column? Mine has started to make the same noises with the same conditions? Is it possible that the turn signal components are starting to cause problems?

Anyone else know a possible solution or the cause for the sounds?

Thanks,
Michael

usually if you hear clicking it's one of two things:

A) MFS has gone bad, or

B) Your Strut bearings are going bad. They're sandwiched between the strut and the strut mount at the top, and require removal of the strut to change.

Does you steering wheel feel like there is a notch in it? Right around center?
Does the "click" happen after you move it from the notchy area? Does your steering wheel "stick", sometimes? :type:

Hopefully it is not the strut bearings... I just replaced the struts, the mounts and the strut bearings. And a few years ago the entire front suspension including all the ball joints and bushings as well as welding the strut rod bushings and the tops of the strut towers.

What is the MFS? Is that the turn signal switch? That seems to be functioning correctly. It that is the problem? How difficult will it be to change?

It does feel like it is sticking like there is a notch in a specific spot and then clicks. It does not seem to "stick".

So what are you getting at?

Mine does the same, wheel effort is sometimes sporadic, notchy around center. I have the same click/thump when wiggling the wheel... Maybe the VAPS is bad?? Loose rack?? I will check mine out tonite and see if I can find the source of the noise(s).
