seems to me like there's a decent amount of performance to be had in the V8 cars by puttin em on a diet. we all know they're portly beasties, but has anyone ever done the work to shed some pounds? replacing the seats alone with something lighter and more supportive should net at least 65lbs with complete rear seat removal. i know the door panels aren't very light, either. discuss.

Some time ago a few of the people very oriented toward quarter mile times did some cleaning out of excess weight and such, IIRC, but that was a lot of years ago. The threads may be here somewhere. I think them might have managed to take a couple of hundred pounds out, at the most. Most of these cars are about 3500 lbs, which, compared to a modern sedan, is actually light. I think the new SHOs are almost a thousand pounds more, though obviously they also have a bunch of extra Hp.

didn't Beefcake's big ass weigh in at 4050 when he did that 12.75 blast? IIRC, he took the passenger seat out, but he's a big fella, so it probably averaged out. a couple of hundred pounds is still a considerate loss...

My brothers completely stock 89 is still in the top ten 1/4 thread. removed exhaust and gutted car. That is all he did. still had the stock Y pipe. Name is "Fuzzyfish" it ran well into the 14's with only weight reduction. That was a **** of a fast/fun car to drive, but my god was it beat to ****.

There is allot of random sound dampining stuff in the Gen 3 and 4. I've striped almost 45LBs of random sound dampining crap from my car. To take care of that hard cake crap they spray in there use dry ice and a hammer. CF or fiber glass hood would help, if you have a CF friend trunk and doors would be sick.

Go to a lightweight battery. Easy 20 lbs to lose.

Go to a single exhaust another 15 or so lbs.

Take off the tow hooks, rear seat belts, I use to take the cassette drive out. Another 15 lbs total.

Really? Wow. Yea I've been kind of noticing that as my time here on the forums grows (you guys doing weird things with beer cans).

I'm guessing that means some of us Gen4 guys/gals are gonna have to step up to the plate and carry on, or add to, those traditions huh?

I'm open to suggestions

beer can exhaust tips.

I meant us here in St Louis, not "us" lol. I dont have any suggestions, as your car is so nice. I started it with my race car. I used beer bottle caps on my COP's then covered my fresh air duct with a split beer can. It was more for humor than anything though. :)

See ya at Tony's.
