Aloha!

My 2015 SHO is currently being serviced under warranty for a busted water pump. Thank God for the extended warranty. This is literally saving me thousands of dollars in repair costs, plus they covered my rental. My warranty is valid until Feb 2024. For anyone who knows, does Ford check other areas covered under warranty during scheduled maintenance? Should I ask Ford to check everything covered and have them begin any preventative maintenance while I'm still under warranty? Or is it I'm just lucky to have coverage now and oh well after it expires.

Thank you, Isaac

All of the dealers should do a "free multipoint inspection" whenever you have the vehicle in for service. They do that so the service writers can find more work to do and sell more work. So they should be doing what you are asking without having to ask. But it is good practice to bring the vehicle in a month or two before the vsc is about to expire and have them do a thorough inspection so you can get any needed work done and have it covered.

Like Ruby stated, this is typically a common practice for any dealer service, but if there is ANYTHING that you are concerned about or hear, bring it up to them now so it's covered by the same claim.

I'm not sure how many miles you have on the car, but with the water pump out, really pressure them to change out the timing set as well if they aren't already. I would be willing to bet they are, but sometimes they get cheap on warranty and since most of the time (knock on wood) the timing chains start to see stretch around 100k miles, I would change it out any time I have the front of the engine open.

All the labor for the chain is in the water pump replacement. Even if you have to buy the chain and All the other components with it more than worth it.
Just make sure that is understood. I've been to shops that tried to double bill me for labor they just added the book labor for one procedure and then do it again for the other that had most of the same labor. I beat them down but I had to argue over it.

When I did my last water pump, all new timing chain set was included in price.

Thank you so much for all the insight!

I've attached a copy of my Ford work order below. I didn't see timing chain however, maybe because the car has 51k miles. Was less than I was quoted. Looks like they did an all point inspection. I'll review with the technician tomorrow regarding any other parts under warranty that might need repair.

Personally since they are removing it, I would urge them to replace it. I wouldn't reinstall any wear item that I removed for another warranty claim.

I would go so far as to replace the timing chain parts out of pocket if they absolutely won't cover it, since the biggest part of labor is already covered under warranty, just for peace of mind.

Great price, mine was $1,900 for replacement. But came with new timing chain, guides, etc. I would jump on that before they realize there doing it on the cheap. I agree with everyone else, if there going in, might as well get a new timing chain and parts. Make it a one and done.
