My 2014 SHO is losing engine coolant, my local northern New Jersey FORD dealer charged me $150 to diagnose the problem and says I need the water pump replaced ....they quoted $5000 to do the job. I am a decent backyard mechanic but replacing the water pump may be beyond my ability. A man I met had his SHO water pump replaced by a Ford dealer in Pennsylvania (about 75 miles away from me) for $2500. My local shop/mechanic quoted me $1500, that mechanic says he has done the job before. I live in Northern New Jersey, am looking for a shop/mechanic near me that has experience with SHOs to replace the water pump and other service as I need it. Thanks for any advise. Paul G

Just remember, with cheaper prices come shortcuts. At $1500, is that a water pump and installation? There are 13.4 hours of labor in the installation and most shops are about $100+ for labor. With $1500, I suspect it is a pump and install, top off the coolant, and ship it. You need to be looking at timing chains, guides, tensioners, sprockets, oil change, coolant flush, drive belt, tensioner, etc. Wherever you go, get a written quote and look it over closely.

Above post is 100% correct. It is hard to see if you are comparing apples to apples unless you can verify what was included. THere can be a wide spread but you have to be sure what you are talking about is the same to see if actual savings are true. Get whatever you think makes sense (and is feasible regarding cost) done in there while it is exposed. Timing chain stretch is a thing with 3.5 eco's

Proximity of repair is an old good concept to replace wear parts that are accessable during a particular repair/maintenance event.

I have a 2014 SHO. B&F Auto did mine plus timing chains, tensioners, cam phasers, the works. They are in northern NJ. https://www.bfautoservices.net/

Ask for Ralph, he may not be the cheapest but he is a good dude, honest about what you may need or what you may not need/can wait on. Solid mechanic. He is the only one I let touch any of my cars. Hard to find mechanics like him. Gone another 40K miles since I had them done. No issues.
