About 6 months ago, my 89 SHO had the problem of stalling out after stop and go driving and then not starting again. I posted my problem here and you guys correctly diagnosed it as the water pump leaking on either the cam sensor or crankshaft sensor (can't remember exactly which it was). So I bought the parts and paid a guy to replace the water pump, sensor, and timing belt. Everything was fine for about 3-4 months, but now the problem is starting again. I think there is an O-ring somewhere in there which is causing the leak.

Is there a way to fix this without having to go through all that again???????

Thanks for the help in the past....and future! :)

ouch! I feel for ya!
It is the CPS (cranshaft position sensor). And my UNprofessional guess agrees with you: O ring. There is a crossover tube that runs through the valley of the engine connecting the thermostat to the water pump. It has O rings on each end.
Maybe you could change them BOTH out by just removing the thermostat housing???? The crossover tube will pull out. I have NOT done this, so hopefully someone else can chime in.
Good luck!

The outlet from the pump to the block also has an O-ring and is much more likely to leak. I have always thought that this seal was undersized. The block and the pump faces must be clean in order for this seal to work properly. If RTV was used, it may have interfered with the function of the O-ring (makes the gap larger).

Do you see water leaking or are you guessing that is the cause since you are having the same problems?

I haven't been driving the car...my sister has. So I don't know if water has actually been leaking. But when she called me crying and told me what the car was doing, I knew exactly what she was talking about. The guy who repaired the car 6 months ago told me he could see where the O-ring was leaking before he replaced everything. So I'm betting that an O-ring is leaking again.

Thanks!
