I'm in the middle of replacing the front half of my water pump. I removed the battery, belts, WP Pulley mount and am now staring at the pulley housing.

It appears there are two sets of screws. 4 that hold the whole water pump in and 3 that connect the front to the back. I just need to remove the 3 10mm screws right?

Well, the top two 10mm screws appear to be partially covered by a plastic cover. Did you guys who've done just the front half remove this cover?

thanks Guitar. Yes, I wouldn't have started this job without looking there first :) However, that writeup is for removing the ENTIRE water pump during a full 60K which involves removing the timing chain etc.

there were a couple of forum members who said that only removing the front half was a simple matter of just removing the battery and unscrewing the pump.

I'm prepared to to go the whole nine yards. I just wanted to make sure it was absolutely necessary before I start removing all that stuff.

just take it all apart. the seal between the two halves and the shaft are not the only places that leak. there is an oring at the block that could be replaced or rtved. also a seal at the tube running under the intake. Getting the whole pump out will allow you to properly clean the gasket mating surfaces as well. Its not hard. it just will take an afternoon. Im a relatively novice mechanic, but I know this much: a job done right is worth the extra effort. Also, if you are in there, why not do a complete front side 60k? The parts for this are not too expensive, the most expensive part is certainly the water pump and it sounds like you have that...

For future searchers.

If you're only doing the front half. You still need to remove the intake tube over the top sprocket cover. Then the cover, and finally the tensioner mechanism. There is a small 8mm bolt that must be removed along with the 3 10mm and 4 13mm bolts.

It's not too bad.
