Ok. I recently replaced my clogged dynomax mufflers with a pair of summit turbos. The first week they sounded just plan beautiful (except for the rasp past 3k rpm).
Well when i took off my old mufflers i noticed that besides sediments from the old bad cats, there was water inside them. I found this plain weird.
So ive been keeping an eye on my mufflers to make sure that there was nothing left over from the cats in the piping that couldve gone inside these mufflers too.
So far so good.. BUT i noticed that there seems to be water inside the mufflers now.
So i have no idea how that is... or what it is.
Im guessing water from say... vapor that just turned back into water while inside the muffler.
Anyone ever have this happen to them or have an idea of what it if in there and why?
Also... some of the rasp under 3k is coming back eventhough it was gone when i first put these mufflers on. could this be because of the water inside the mufflers?
I have a catless shoshop Y pipe and cat back.

Condensation in the exhaust is completely normal. The H2O is a byproduct off the catalytic converters.

Take longer trips to get the exhaust hot enough to evaporate out the moisture. Trips of less than 15-20 minutes won't do it.

Hot exhaust gases. Water condenses out in the relative coolness of the mufflers. Perfectly normal.

i agree with the others. in a perfect world, the byproduct coming out of any automotive exhaust is water. unfortunately, we dont live in a perfect world, so instead we mostly have CO and CO2 as by products....

Also the lowest point of each muffler should have a weep hole that lets the water out so that it doesn't rust out from the inside. I think all factory ones come with it now. They tend to clog up with black soot and need to be cleaned out with a little twist drill bit.

thanks everyone.
off road sho: i dont remember my summit turbo mufflers having a hole at the bottom. Is there something i can do to prevent the water inside from rotting my mufflers?

As mentioned, take longer trips and get it real hot. I've noticed that if I only drive back and forth to work for a few days (10 minutes) then when my car is idling you can hear the gurgling of the water in the exhaust. That's when I know it's time for a little ride evil_gri

Condensation in the exhaust is completely normal. The H2O is a byproduct off the catalytic converters.

The combustion of hydrocarbons in the engine produces the water.

xCH3 + XO2 ---> xCO2 + xH20

Beauty of the world: any combustion produces these 2 ingredients...albeit not perfectly as unburned fuel and other gases are produced which the cat conv tries to remove or reduce.
