I still run E30. It is cheaper than just straight 91 still. E54 is $4.99 while 91 is $5.90 here. However it is still $101+ dollars to fill up, with no end in sight.

I run my Focus ST on 87 all the time. It is my DD and I don't beat on it. 500 to 550 miles a week, 90% which is freeway miles. I fill up roughly every 4th to 5th day. I feel a big difference in power esp in the heat. I have noticed a 5 to 6 psi in sustained boost drop across the power band. I would gander that is a 30 to 35 hp drop in the same heat vs 91 octane.

Also the Focus having a 12 gallon tank and 87 here being $5.20 ish is $62 bucks a fill up now.

Just for prospective:

91 octane @ $2.25 x 12= $27.00 x 6.5 fill ups = $175 a month
87 octane @ $5.20 x 12= $62.50 x 6.5 fill ups = $405 a month

The difference is $230 dollars a month which is almost my Focus ST payment of $259.00.

Thanks Joe, you are an A$$hole for closing Keystone, and everything else your $hit administration is doing to cripple oil and the middle class. Would love some mean tweets and cheaper gas.
do you run E30 on a stock HPFP? or is it upgraded? gearhead has said they can send me an E30 tune, no charge and i would just need to data log it and make sure there no red flags before hand. but if i can on the stock system i would like too. any input is appreciated.

The majority of the my ownership was E30 on a stock HPFP. Brad from AJP tuned the car and it made 391 hp and 494 lbs of TQ with Full Bolts On to the tire. However in my opinion there are fuel pressure issues that the owner has be willing to be comfortable with. You will see dips and you will probably need a revision for the winter months. The colder the outside temp, the more you will see fuel issue dips.

With the FS HPFP I can run E30 to E40 and the car made 411 hp and 546 tq to the tire, with rock solid fuel pump pressure and it doesn't matter what the outside temp is.

as much as it makes sense to me to open up the exhaust side more, I’m beginning to think I should just upgrade the HPFP and get an e30 tune instead. As far as money spent per power gained between HPFP and exhaust/DPs, it seems better. Did you upgrade anything regarding cooling to accommodate or is it not that bad? I may be wrong but I could’ve sworn I saw you say you’re still running the stock IC

Here is the whole story of my car.

Here is the condensed version of power mods and what they did:

So from my research most stock SHO's put about 290 HP and 300 TQ on average.

Full disclaimer: Brad from AJP Turbo is the only person who has tuned my car.

When I first tuned the car (plugs, K&N drop in) on 91 it made 366 HP and 414 TQ in 105 degree heat. so +76 HP and +114 TQ over stock. (366hp/414tq)

Next was the E30 tune. Car made 391 HP and 470 TQ on 91 octane with Torco T85 E30 mix in 90 degree heat. E30 added +25 HP and 56 HP for a +101 HP and +170 TQ over stock. (391hp/470tq)

Literally just the AJP Turbo E30 tune was the biggest bang for the buck in my build.

Then came the GH IC. The car actually lost power in cooler temps with a revision. The GH IC was a bit too big for my particular turbos. Car made 388 HP and 463 TQ on two less PSI of boost. So -3 HP and -7 TQ made +98 HP and +163 TQ over stock. Brad did state in an email this could happen, because he was seeing boost tapering bad on my car in the logs.(388hp/463tq)

Next my full exhaust mod. Revised AJPTurbo E30 tune on stock HPFP, Gearhead Intercooler, PPE Catted Downpipes, Custom Magnaflow Resonator. DP's and Custom Magnaflow Resonator, going through stock mufflers netted me +3 HP and +24 TQ bringing up the numbers to +101 HP and +194 TQ over stock. (391hp/494tq)

Finished the cycle with the FS HPFP (who I bought from BPD) and removed the GH IC and replaced with a stock unit. I documented it in detail earlier in this thread. Brad sent me a revision for the HPFP and stock IC. Car was on 91 mixed with pump E54 for pump E30. All pulls were back to back, with minimal cool down, and I was not using my Ice Water IC Sprayer on the dyno. Car actually made 414 HP on the first pull but TQ didn't register because of the connection to the MSD coils. He fixed the issue and the second pull netted 411 HP and 546 TQ. However if you look at the dyno sheet, he didn't actually get the true peak. It is probably in the 555 to 565 TQ range because it was already falling before the dyno recorded. So +20 HP and +52 TQ finishing the numbers at +121 HP and +246 TQ over stock. (411hp/546tq)

You said your boost was tapering bad in your logs, what did it start at and then taper down to, and how many miles on your car again?

Looking at my last log:
3rd gear pull, 88k miles.
3000 rpm: 15.66 psi
3400 rpm: 18.27 psi (peak)
4000 rpm: 17.46 psi
5000 rpm: 16.53 psi
5500 rpm: 13.77 psi
5900 rpm: 12.76 psi

The last 1000 rpm is really killer. I also have my SHO shift at 5900 rpm. No need to pull more RPM.

Wow, 88k doesn't seem like a ton of miles either.

Wow, gas prices are getting out of hand. I don't think gas got this expensive during the recession.
Have heard predictions on the news of a $6/gallon national average by the end of June and a $10/gallon national average by year-end. I hope the second is just fear-mongering. I have to say I am really missing my Honda Insight. I am beginning to look at options for a fuel miser DD. Always wanted an old VW Rabbit pickup. Maybe it is time.

I was telling my GF that if crap gets any worse, I was going to get her one of those little death trap smart cars lol. I may have to start driving the SN95 more, it's stout and runs great on 87.

I’ll **** if it hits $10. My work is Supposed to be giving me a company truck soon, so they’ll be paying for that gas. If not, or if I go work somewhere else (journeyman IW) I’m gonna get me an old TDI Jetta or something

So, after running the mid-grade for a week. I took the SHO for a spirited drive. No discernable difference so far. Hoping it's not a cumulative thing and gets worse with time lol. Premium is now $5.359 at my local Exxon and only going up.

People can call BS if they like, but I (and I’m sure others) can tell the difference from just a bad batch of 93. I’m sure 87 would just feel gross
Well that just happened to me, I filled up on "93" at a Kroger fuel station, drove 20 miles, did a log because car felt off. Sent it to Brad and out of a year and 8 revisions all of a sudden I had knock he has never seen and shouldn't happen. Our mutual agreement, Kroger put 87 in their 93 tank. This was just this week.
