I have a 94' ATX SHO with 184k miles on it (man I'm tired of saying that). Anyway, so I took my car (whose check engine light keeps me company while I'm on the road) to AutoZone to have the codes checked (I thought it was more difficult to check than it was) so the guy pulls the codes: 111,112,115,117 and hands me a Hayes book to look them up in. 115 wasn't even on the list. Do these codes mean anything or does this guy need to switch to a less toxic brand of crack? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wes

Air Charge Temperature this is the intake air temp sensor and Engine Coolant Temp sensor. They are identical internally.

The codes are pointing to the IAC sensor.

So does the error code indicate that they need to be replaced or that what they monitor is the problem? Also, kinda OT, but does anyone know where I might find the 6" foam tipped swabs that SHOTimes calls for to clean the IAB or of a substitute?

Thanks,
Wes

The book has you going through all kinds of rigamarow to find out if it's the sensor. I would check to see if there is voltage at the connector when the key is on. If there is then I would get a new sensor. The book also has you checking voltage at the TPS connector with the key on. Voltage should be above 4V.

Swabs at a drug store.

Just a thought, Wes, but make a sig with that info. This way you won't have to keep typing it!

The ACT (Air Charge Temp) sensor is mounted on the stock airbox.

The ECT(Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is mounted adjacent to where the upper radiator hose mounts to the coolant outlet block. It is the one with two conductors. The single terminal sensor is the sending unit for your temp guage in the dash.

Both of these sensors is supplied by the same 5V supply circuit (also supplies the TPS, BAP, KS, and PSP sensor circuits). It is possible that you may have an open circuit in the wiring that supplies both of these sensors. It is also possible that both are defective.

Ok, so I'm not much of a car guy or anything like that. I thought that the sensor located on the top of the air box was the "Mass Airflow Sensor" and is the ECT that square (cube) thing that is bolted to the radiator support on the driver side of the car. You'll have to excuse my ignorance but can someone please help me find these sensors.

Thanks again,
Wes

These guys got it pretty much covered. As for the crack, I'm sure someone here could help you and the guy at the store out. :D

I really needa get a book or something that shows me where all this stuff is. Any chance I can get someone to tell me where the ECT is and if the ACT and the Mass Airflow Sensor are the same? (That's the only sensor I could find on my airbox)
Pretend you are trying to walk a seven-year-old blind girl with no arms or legs through the procedure, and I should be fine ;-)

Thanks again,
Wes

I got this from the 80mm How-To on SHOForum's front page.

connectors.jpg

Larger top connecter is the MAF sensor, the smaller bottom one is the ACT sensor.

BTW while we are on the subject of the ECT, I just read SPMotorsports that this sensor can start to make the engine run a little rich.

Could this be my "rare" running rich problem with my SHO? Anyways tuesday I will be replacing it, with another CID sensor, knock sensor, and hoepfully not have to adjust timing myself but it seems like I will have to considering the way it is running now.
