I got a quote from autowarranties.com for a 5yr/100,000 Low end warranty and a 2yr/24,000 being there best. I basicaly want this warranty for my tranny. When it fails I don't want to be stuck with the Fat Bill. I can get the 5yr for 695 and the 2yr cost about 1200. I was wondering if anyone could look over the items that are covered and tell me if I should just stick with the 5yr or if I will need the 2yr for a tranny failure...

5YR: Transmission: All internally lubricated parts of manual or automatic transmissions, including: torque converter, oil pump, valve body, governor, bands, drums, planetaries, sun gear and shell, sprag(s), shaft(s), bearings and related bushings, shift rail, forks, synchronizers, transmission case, bell housing, oil pan(s) and all internally lubricated parts of the 4X4 Transfer Case.

2YR: Transmission (Automatic or Standard): The internal components of the automatic transmission or manual transmission. Drive chain, drive chain gears, carrier bearings, internal transaxle seal. The manual transmission case and automatic transmission case and torque converter are covered, if of internally lubricated parts. Flywheel/flex plate, vacuum modulator, electronic shift control unit, transmission cooler, transmission mounts, oil pan, seals and gaskets, shift linkage and shift bushing.

Well, right off the bat I see that they limit the transmission payout to $2000, which means anything over that you're going to be paying out of your pocket anyway. Figure about $2500-$3000 parts and labor from a Ford dealer. They would probably be happy to send you to MAACO and have it come in under $2K, but you'll be back over and over again trying to get it right.

I also don't know that a catastrophic engine failure (which rarely happens in the V6 SHO's, but also isn't unheard of) would be repairable for under $3000.

You might want to keep shopping around for a warranty with higher limits...

Well I don't care so much for the Engine blowing I am sure it won't, I would just like to know if the less exspensive warranty will cover the normal issues with the 95ATX transmission. If not I think that the More exspensive warranty with no limit on coverage, may be a better choice in that it covers a lot of other small things like the fuel pump, alternator, starter, and other little things that can add up. I'm just looking for any opinions I can get. Thank you.

I was looking at that same warranty. For a 95ATX I am thinking about buying. It seems like a good deal to me. The Better Business Bureau gives this company a satisfactory record. If your tranny goes you will save yourself at least 1300 bucks. Over 5 years or 100k miles the transmission will most likely need to be rebuilt.

What stops you from buying a car for $250 that needs a ton of work, spending the money on one of these warranties and getting the car repaired for cheap?

Hey!! Looks like a quick fix for the MTX guys who keep blowing diff pins, too.....but then, for pretty much the same price, you could get a Quaife and install......

Being in the automotive repair business, let me help you a little on this. When you buy a warranty on the internet and they do not need to come and look at your car first. Buyer beware. If it were just that easy. Most of those warrantys, ( IF you can get them to cover anything ) will decide to replace with use parts instead or new or reman ( it is their choice, not yours ). Also there is a disclaimer that floats around that will state a couple of things. Sometimes it is that the warranty will not pay out more than you paid for the contract. Or the warranty will not pay out more that black book value for your car. It is a very tricky game. I have run into at least 10 that would decline or screw their customer in one way or another at my shop for a transmission rebuild. I had one, that I prepped the guy for the worst and that warranty really stood up and did a great job. But I do not remember who they were.

Alot of warrantys that are sold when you buy the car are decent. A few are not. But almost all of the internet warranties are crap.

Just my $0.02 But please listen. I have to break it to people like you every day.
