before you get too deep into this, take your power steering belt off and drive the car for only a minute thru some tight turns in a parking lot. that will give you an idea of what to expect, without doing any damage from overheating.

the steering column, especially the lower area is not designed to handle the increased torque without power assist. it won't be long before a couple inches of play developes in the steering.

It would be best for you to start with a 3.2 engine and then you will already have the one belt drive setup that you are looking for. If using a 3.0 the only option you have is to just delete the power steering and use a smaller belt for the water pump. There isn't a way to go to the one belt setup without swapping the front head from a 3.2. The one belt setup requires the belt tensioners from the 3.2 along with all the pulleys. The problem you will have is that the front tensioner bolts to the front head in different locations than the 3.0 does. There is a Boss missing from the 3.0 head that is vital to the 3.2 tensioner. When people do the 3.2 swap into an MTX car they need to cut that boss off to use the MTX drive system. Once they do, the ATX drive cannot be reinstalled.

that turns out to be important information.

you will need the atx water pump, wp pulley, and crank pulley to make that work.

thanks for the info, all I want to do is know how to get the water pump pulley to line up with the crank pulley, 3.2 pump and pulley or will a 3.2 pulley do it, I don't need the 2nd idler, the belt will go directly from the alternator around the waterpump to the crank,

That's good information thankyou, so if in correct the atx waterpump will interchange with the mtx, no modification? will the waterpump pulley line up with the mtx alternator?

The 2 belt system is not the kiss of death. It works very well and doesnot need a lot of adjustment over the years. It has been at least 2 years since I last adjusted the belts on any of my SHOs. And that was a false alarm as it was another issue that was making the noise.

Just free up the adjusters when it is out in the open and get them working well. You can buy an adjusting allan key from Shosource or invent one yourself, and don't forget to loosen the pulley nut before you try to adjust anything.

A lot of people with the 1 belt system have converted to an manual adjuster, as that system has supply issues when trying to replace any parts on it, and I think you have to crawl under the car to adjust that one. So hardly a great improvement if that becomes your fate.
