Hi, when I purchased my used '96 SHO years ago, a previous owner robbed the CD changer from the trunk. I installed a Pioneer FM modulated changer; however, because it broadcasts on FM airwaves, I don't think the sound is as good as a factory unit would be. Am I right?????? If so, what year Taurus/Sable would have the same (JBL) stereo w/trunk mounted changer? For $236 I can buy a unit from CDChangersOnline.com. But I think a factory changer should be a pretty easy junkyard find --- for a lot less $$$. (I've already upgraded the rear speakers to some pretty decent Polks.)

Does anyone have a used one they'd like to sell?

Thanks

As far as I know the FM brodcast ones don't mess with sound quallity any. But Alpine makes a pretty good one and I don't think it's FM brodcast. If it is I have no compliants about it because it make it sound better than any I've heard. The stock from Ford is the same price so you might want to check into Alpine.

All of the aftermarket FM broadcast changers that I have dealt with have had a noticeable effect on sound quality. I would go for the junk yard myself, not real sure which cars have the CD players and which don't.

before you make a junkyard run, checkout various web sites to see if an adaptor cable is available for your present changer. that way your controls up front will work and the sound will be greatly improved. should run about $40 to $50 and hook up to rear unit.

This may not work for you, but is interesting info, I think.

FYI, the older Aiwa / Sony ones (RF, etc.) are the EXACT SAME as the stock V8 SHO ones. I pulled an RF Aiwa 6-disc out of my 91, Kirk Doucette's 97 was in the bay next door, and we looked at the cartridges. When we found they were the same, we looked at the entire unit - silver instead of black, but otherwise identical. Something to think about.

I think I still have the Aiwa unit. Could see if Kirk would swap into his 97 to verify actual operation.
