this is a perfect example of me making things considerably harder than they need to be. for the past week, i've expended untold amounts of energy (as well as blood) attempting to change an axle on my wife's 98 due to a messed up ABS ring. started with an axle that was an inch too long. once i got the right sized axle, the tranny was leaking, leading me to believe i mangled the seal. put a new seal in, still leaking. try another seal, and halfway through that have an epiphany about the c-clip. promptly spend 30 minutes beating the ever-loving out of this poor axle, but only accomplishing the severe mushrooming of the axle nut stud. out of sheer desperation and exhaustion, i take the old ring, beat it into a shape similar to flat, coat it in RTV and sove it on the old axle which i promptly rammed into the transmision like a soldier coming home from a year-long tour of duty. today i had to make a 120ish mile trip to pick up a part for my wounded in action 95 (thanks muchly, TimboSHO!!!) and get this...everything works fine. sometimes i hate these cars...
