Ok, well lately my 91 has been running really bad, idle's high, misfires, the car bucks when it misfires. I replaced, plugs, wires, DIS, IAB, solenoid on end of IAB, DIS thing on side of intake, TPS, and MAF. Nothing fixed it. It doesn't read out any codes? I was thinking it's probably a leak in the vacuum lines, but last night some interesting stuff happened. So me and my friends are driving, just going 55mph steady throttle all of a sudden my etac goes off and comes back on? I was like "huh, weird never seen it do that before?" Kept going did it again except I was watching the tach and the warning lights, the abs light came on tach dropped about 150rpms and the etac once again went off and came back on? Both the times when this happened the stereo stayed on though? Then a few miles down the road it does the samething except abs light is going crazy flashing tons! and the etac stays off then it settles and everything is normal. It did that a few times? Makes me think it's not a vacuum leak?

Back in Michigan ... again.
Hmmm....perhaps you need a new 'puter after all?

When you say it doesn't read out any codes, do you mean it doesn't perform the test at all, it doesn't spit out ANYTHING or it does the test normal and gives you a 11 (all clear)?

Sounds electrical to me. I'd make sure the charging system (including all connections and grounds) is functioning properly.

It reads aout 11 for both tests, and thats it...... I had a hunch it maybe was the computer, but I don't know. I am driving my winter beater now, so in my free time I'll be looking at it. If I can't figure it out I'll send it in to get diagnosed, then fix it myself.

When I put in the new trans I noticed the black line going to the starter was chewed up, the casing was ripped off in areas. I took electrical tape and tightly wrapped it with a few layers, I highly doubt that the tape fell off, but maybe I can check. Where's the grounds located for the charging system?

Shoguy 92, by any chance, were you, or are you, in the United States Marine Corps?

Dude, he's only 18....

I see you're from Meridian, MS... I used to live there. My mom was stationed at Colubus and my dad was at a Air National Guard unit flying f-4's at Meridian.

The only time I've ever had anything like that happen to me (ETAC goes off and on, ABS light flashing, ect) was when the lead on the back of my alternator fell off. My battery light came on before all that happend though - but check your voltages none the less I would suggest.

You say your negative battery cable was chewed up, maybe you should look into a replacement eventually? I know I have to..hehe

I know 17 can join, I am in the AF... But one of your questions stated "were you".... Unless he joined at 17 and got kicked out, then that really isn't plausable ;)

Soany other ideas on what it could be? Could it be the chip itself being messed up?

Also deckpilot why were you asking if I was in the Marines?

As for your SHO problem... it is a bad connection either down at the starter or on the battery terminals.

And that would cause the misfiring, high idling? I have had a thing occur a few other times before the car started acting up. I'd turn on accesories wait for the fuel pump to prime, then turn the car on, but when I went to turn it on I got a "pop" might have been a sound from the speakers? But all the power like was out? I'd pop the hood and wiggle the negative battery cable, the underhood light would come back on and it'd be good to go. So maybe that's a hint, I'll have to jack her up, hopefully it's just something that simple :thumb:

Uhh... if you wiggling the battery cable made the light come back on, then you have a VERY bad connection there. You need to replace that battery terminal at the very least, if not the entire cable.

Yeah, I'll have to run out and yoink the cable off the 90, god I love parts cars :D But like I asked, would this cause high idling and misfiring? I don't see how it would?

If its got a bad ground, it can cause all sorts of weird problems. But, you need to fix one at a time.

i have the same prob. i started my 92 one day and started driving, then all the sudden the tach and speedo went to 0!!!! the airbag light came on with the bat. light and almost ever other one. THE ENIGINE WAS STILL RUNNING!!! and i tried to put up the windows and they would go very very very slow and then just stop. for some reason which i have no idea the car over heated to. after i turned off the car and let it sit for about 30 mins, i could put up the window. i was like HUh. it was really wired. i kinda thought it was the alt because it made a nasty sound like the bearing was shot. and it was! and the ground on the back was also loose. so i just decided to just change it out for a new one. i ordered a power coated one so it is not hear yet. once it gets here i hope to put it in and to find that this was the prob. if that is not it i have no clue at all what it is. im gona be really really mad. :madflame:
