Very hard start all of a sudden

Car has 142k on it. Hasn't shown any signs of trouble until today. I went to crank it after depositing by check and it cranked really hard with the tach bouncing all over. I stopped and tried again and it fired up luckily. Drove it home and let it sit for a spell and did it again. I can get it to start but with a lot of work. I pulled 528 & 543 as the codes but 528 isn't a code. I pulled it 3 times to make sure. How can I tell between CPS and fuel pump?

Thanks for the many replies. LOL! Diagnosed it as a failed starter. Installed a new one today and fires like a champ again.
