ive had this problem for a long time. when using my heat in the winter i smell what seams like oil. well i had belts changed, "full" 60k service done. leaking fluids i know of are some seapage from power steering pump and the oil pan. as for the power steering being the culprit..maybe im not good with what smells like what, but i dont think its that could be though. the oil pan is common to leak and is far away from heating area so i dont think its that. im hoping it is left over oil leakage that has combined with dirt somewhere on my car and needs to be cleaned off. if it is power steering then at least i know whats causing the smell

most likely it is from the front main seal. my car does the same thing. the front main seal is about 12 bucks from Ford. Kind of a pain to replace. If you are doing the waterpump or the cps soon, then do the front main seal. Otherwise I would leave it because it's just oil. Unless you are leaking more than 1 quart every 800 miles or so, then i would replace it.

curious why that it is such a potant oil smell from there i could smell it through the vents. i have a guess as to why but im curious why the seal all the way down there would cause a smell in the vents. on a side note i do have some minor leakage down there
