Not sure if variable assist steering is called VAPS on the Gen3 but figured yall would know what I mean.

Anyway, I'm curious about the signal that goes to the steering rack that commands the variable assist actuator. I think the signal is pulse width modulated. If that's the case, does anyone know the details of the PWM signal? (min/max voltages, carrier frequency, and duty cycle range, etc.).

Has anyone ever tried rigging up a simple PWM circuit with a potentiometer to dial in the level of PS boost on a Gen3?

Just thinking out loud..

Personally I've found the Gen 3 VAPS to be perfect and no reason to mess with it. It is controlled by the SARC processor and does so independently from the strut ride height sensors.

For a time I ran with the SARC fuse pulled to put the struts in hard mode but after a while really missed the PS assist at low speeds.

I think it's pretty nice too. It's my dad's car, he thinks it's too stiff at higher speeds and would like to make it higher boost all the time.

Not much info from the manual. It is an analog DC signal so PWM seems to be the right answer. The wires out of the SARC module to the solenoid are the; Gray/Orange +, Pink/Yellow -.
