My car is an 89 with 77K miles. Anyway, yesterday I was doing a lot of running around town, in and out of the car. After one stop, I got in and the car would turn over but would not start. After about 10 minutes, I got it started, but it died on the road about half a mile away. Again, got it started after about 10 minutes, but it quickly died down the road.

So I left the car at a gas station for a few hours. When I came back several hours later, the car started right up and I drove it home with no trouble. Do these cars vapor lock or anything like that? It does not overheat at all, and the weather is cold here, so I'm not really sure.

One other thing....I only get about 19 mpg on the freeway! The plugs have been changed, so should I try O2 sensors next??

Thanks for any advice,

Phil

If your fuel pump is running correctly, the 35 to 40 pounds of pressure will not allow vapor lock. SHOs use a constantly circulating fuel system, any vapor (that could form under 40 lbs of pressure) would be pumped right back to the tank. Along with the CPS, another possibility is the CCRM not sending power to the fuel pump.

I have a similar problem...I know this sounds kinda weird cuz I know that the parking brake and the starter aren't connected but sometimes when I go to start my SHO it won't even try to turn over until I pop the brake release and then it starts just fine...it could be the starter but I just think its weird that I usually have to pop the brake to start it

Right on....thanks for the replies. Is there a step-by-step guide to checking/replacing the CPS on this site somewhere??

Also, with the poor mileage, should I replace the O2 sensors next? Plugs should be good and air filter is new too.

Check out http://www.shotimes.com look through the care and feeding section of the faq for 'how to' instructions.

If you get jammed up you could always try to contact Nook (James) of http://www.prosuspension.com He has a little shop area for his business and owns/is very familiar with SHOs and is in SLC.
