How long is the average valve adjust job? I haven't done it yet and want to do it myself very soon?

Please post any tips if any.....

Like for example....Put rags in the return passages....

I have written a step by step procedure to do the valve gapping. I found that some of the bolt sizes changed between '93 and '95, but the procedure will take you through the job. What it can't do is show you the detailed steps for doing the actual valve gapping and what indications on the shims should prevent them from being reused. I have sent it to your personal email address.

Yep, for sure do the rag thing!

Figure about 10 hours to do the job...16 hours if you drop the tool down the oil return passage.

Take your time, don't rush through anything. Cover up the intake runners in the heads too. The rear valve cover is a little tough getting out, along with the bottom bolts on the rear brackets.

Good luck.

For me the actual gapping and inspection of all 24 valves takes about 2 hours. The time consuming part of the job is the removal and reinstallation of the intake and valve covers and the cleaning and detailing of those parts and the ports and runners. The total usually runs me about 10-12 hours.

Hey Scott,

Could you please e-mail that to me also? If I can't find anyone in the Phoenix area to do it for me, I might have to bite the bullet and do it myself. TIA
Tom

It may seem costly now. But in the long run, when you're SHO is running strong rather than broken down it won't seem so costly. Ya just gotta bit the bullet on it if you intend on keeping her around. She's worth it!

I hear ya on that one. I've just spent major money in the last 6 months....all those mods plus brakes all around and a tranny and clutch job. I'm glad its paid for though.

Check your mail.
