Who was it here that went there? My nephew is looking into going there and I would like for him to talk to someone that has went there before he makes his decision.

It's very overpriced. The general goal behind an education at uti is a job as a manufacturer specific dealer. If this is what you nephew is interested in, I'd advise a community college-based program offered by the manufacturer he is interested in. These programs cost a fraction of a standard tuition at uti and will get them further, faster.

It's not a bad school but it cost far, far more than it's worth.

Agreed. I looked into it a few years back. Personally i would much rather gotten an Associates Degree in applied science, rather than a "certificate". My Cousin and a friend of mine went there, Smart kids, hands on....The one works at a Benz dealer making 27k a yr. The other works at a diesel Shop for $25k.(To put in perspective, I just sell auto parts, no college and i make $45k) I would spend 2-5k and get a community college degree before i spent $32k at UTI.
But...it is very dependent on the person doing the program.

i went from nov 03 till june 04, the whole reason i moved to AZ.

nick pretty much answered it best.

if he wants to be a glorified **** tech at a dealership for 30K and a year of his life spent at that school dealing with a lot of idiot ricers, tweakers, rich kids that need to fill their days, and the occasional person who pays attention and understands whats going on then send him on down over there.

if not even AAI is better than UTI.

Haha. As a school counselor, I sometimes giggle to myself when a student tells me that he or she is interested in UTI. My first thought is always a urinary tract infection. I once laughed out loud but the student across from me just gave me a blank stare. Anyway...

As others have said, check to see what his other options are and weigh the costs vs. the benefits. What are his long term goals?

Thanks for the input. I think he is going to follow in my steps and join up.

almost as much getting shot at as UTI, with much better post-service job opportunities.

i wish i would have sometimes, but then remember that my knee doesn't properly function and I carry an extra 100lbs.

good luck to you and your cnephew with the service

He said he is interested in electronics. I told him the join the Air Force and learn radar so when he got out he could work at an airport. Since most airports are run by the city they are in then it would be a gov't job and the benifits wouldn't be too bad.

27k a year at mercedes? A diesel shop for 25k? UTI costs 32k to go to.
You know, on daytime tv they show those auto schools and make it sound like when you graduate and recieve the certificate they give you that youre going to make big bucks after that. I saw the UTI infomercials and they know how to advertise to lure people to the school. I was thinking about going there also but never went for it. After reading this thread im glad i haven't wasted my time or money. I think im going to stay where im at working on my degree in either engineering or bussiness.
