We're getting ready for my upper 60k (valve lash, clean intake, plugs, wires, gaskets) tomorrow (Saturday)! Parts cost alot, but I'm hoping for some nice results, especially considering some recent ignition issues I have noticed (misfire and lack of power at low RPMs) recently.

I'll take some pictures too, and post them as soon as I get a chance. I'm interested to see how clean it really is under there, especially after the black sludge that came out with my baby's first oil change after I bought it. eek! Castrol has hopefully cleaned it up for me a bit!

And HP tip of the day: fill your tires up! I keep neglecting to do this, and got around to it yesterday. They weren't very low, yet made the car go like a rocket! :D

make sure you don't drop any parts down the oil retun holes in the heads, you have to drop the pan to get them back out. eek! I almost lost my tappet compressor down one of them.

Stick a paper towel into each of the 4 drain holes. That will keep the stuff out of them.

Either tie a string to or attaach a big piece of duct tape to each of those tools. Having that on them makes them easier to find when you drop them inside the engine bay.

Watch for that oil in the spark plug wells. Clean it out thoroughly before removing the valve cover gaskets or the plugs.

FWIW, Wesley's Bleche white does an adequate job of cleaning the valve covers (both sides) and the exterior of the intake.

Check the electrical and vacuum connections for the secondaries.

Also make sure to follow the torque specs on the valve cover and intake bolts. I recently observed a sho with stripped out threads in the cylinder heads due to over torquing. Worst thing is it was a Ford dealership that had last worked on the car. This explained all the extra RTV they had used to reseal the covers on the head.... it was nasty.

Very good point, I bought my very first TQ and Inch pound wrenchs on the sole purpose of doing my 60k.
